New Enertrac double hub motor
« on: February 28, 2011, 10:54:30 AM »

Just found it on "ElMoto", it has forced air cooling which is smart (and, I'm sure, necessary). They are going to race this year, which'll be good to work out the bugs. I love how it frees up so much room in the frame and gets rid of belts, chains and sprockets. Mark says that he can put them in any size wheel, which is helpful because I don't want to change from the 3.5" & 5.5" 17" wheels that are stock on my Ducati chassis. I know about the unsprung weight thing being "bad", but how "bad"? There sure are a lot of problems solved by going this route. ;D

I think even if there are some handling penalties they won't keep the bike off the podium. Lightning had some fairly serious handling issues and they still won the events they entered. Power seems to be trumping handling as of 2010. Let's see what happens in 2011.

You know what might be cool is to have the motors spin in opposite directions to cancel out the centrifugal forces. :D
