Revzilla has published an article where they inspected a Regina "maintenance-free" "forever" chain that was first introduced last year on the S1000RR and then sold by Regina over the counter for $360. Apparently the chain didn't live up to its original claims when used on a Yamaha 700 without lubricating or adjusting it. It only lasted for 12,000 miles before it stretched to the point of becoming dangerous. I've been anticipating a test of their claims since I read about this chain.  Still, 12K miles is 11K more than my first belt on my Zero FXS.  If it became available to Zero, I would convert in an instant.  I hate chain oil.  If it still means I need to clean or wipe down a dirty chain once in a while, that's fine.  We should be inspecting and checking our belts as well.

I don't hear anything but wind noise past 25mph anyway.

Apparently it is a pretty good chain and should last a long time as long as it is kept clean and well lubed, just like a normal chain. Nothing is maintenance-free or will last a lifetime.
