I was just told in the Chevy Bolt Forum that my 2022 Bolt somehow balances as needed at any SOC, doesn't need to charge to full. I know there are several ways to cell balance, but this is the first time I heard about the "as needed at any SOC".


I asked because we are not supposed to ever charge to full (to 90 % max for now) until the recalls are completed.


BTW, after the recall, we will get 8% more battery capacity and the Bolt will then have about the same range as my Tesla M3 LR.


BTW, I probably purchased the very last Bolt before the recall. The recall was announced the morning of the day after I purchased mine and now they cannot sell any more Bolts until after the recalls are completed. Cost to Chevy is more than a billion dollars for this recall as all the battery packs will be replaced in all Bolts, even the ones done after the last recall.


Hopefully, they get it right this time.


This reminds me of the Firestone tire recall. They had to do the recall twice because the first recall didn't fix the issue.

Yes, cell balancing can be done a couple different ways, they're all about moving power from one cell to another so Zeros could balance at specific target SoC, which is why they were charging over the target SoC before.
