I'm 100% behind this idea. Even if it isn't practical for "Battery Swap Stations" like "Gas Stations" to increase riding range it means that you won't be locked into a single manufacturer when your battery needs to be replaced. Think about it... if you have a Zero and you've exhausted your battery your only real source of a drop-in replacement is from Zero. They're free to charge you whatever they'd like because they know they're your only real practical solution (unless you're one of those handy sorts who knows how to repurpose a different brand). And if Zero should ever stop making that battery, you're up a creek.
If multiple vehicles can all use the same standardized battery, that means when it is time to replace it you have options. You can do some shopping around. When your car battery dies, you don't have to go back to the dealership who sold you the car; you can go to the corner service station and just buy another battery and drop it right in. That's the kind of convenience a standardized battery format can bring. Hopefully it'll even be something an unskilled home owner can do himself... like changing the batteries in a smoke alarm, but most likely with help since EV batteries are rather heavy.
So yeah, I've seen a LOT of arguments about how swappable batteries are not the answer for increasing riding range (which was my original thought) but there are still a TON of good reasons for them anyway.
