Street mode is plenty fast enough to get nicked by square-headed plod :|
To be honest street mode is fast enough for mostly everyone, most of the time. There are a few occasions I switch it to sport but usually only for a few minutes at a time - sport modes takes you into court appearance / death territory in mere moments and takes no encouragement or thought at all which is maybe not a great idea for inexperienced riders.

In my case, I started riding motorcycles (actually scooters) because I couldn't afford a car. So I grew up with the concept of a motorcycle being just a device to provide utility transportation and I never got into the sport side of riding on two wheels. While I enjoy riding all of my bikes, I just have never really felt comfortable going much faster than about 10 mph over the roadway speed limit, so lots of power and speed are something that I really don't need and actually don't use while riding. Even on my R1200RS and my Yamaha FZ1, I have never used more than one-half of their engine performance. So my "S" fits my riding style and needs.

It is probably a good idea to have a unique frame for SR and SRF - if you put 18.000 $+ on a bike you can expect less plastics & the feeling of having something strongly built.
This pay to upgrade system will also give strong incentives for hacker to find a way to unlock features - might be risk during the first 5 years, but once warranty is over then risks will be limited...
