Here is something to check. I have a (claimed to be) very accurate "Stockton"-brand electronic tire pressure gauge, sold by Cycle Gear, which is made in China, of course. The gauge has worked well for the year that I have owned it and seems to provide accurate results when compared with the several other mechanical gauges that I own and use. However, last night I went to use the gauge and it wouldn't turn on. The obvious thought was that the original batteries had died. So I removed the rubber cover and opened up the battery compartment and discovered that the cheap Chinese no-name "heavy duty" AAA batteries that power the thing had leaked goo all over the compartment and the electrical contacts. After removing the contacts,scraping out the solidified scum, cleaning everything with electronic contact cleaner and emery paper, putting things back together and installing new Duracell batteries, the gauge is working well again. (I am starting to hate batteries.
)
So let this be a warning. If you have one or more electronic tire pressure gauges, check the batteries often and replace them whenever you get a feeling that the gauge is not operating as it used to. These gauges may be good, but the batteries that come with them may suck and can make a big mess when they expire. Or, you could just stick with a reliable mechanical gauge and miss all of this fun.
