New CA vehicle purchase processing fee increase
« on: June 10, 2025, 08:22:30 PM »

What is it about California? The state politicians keep complaining that the residents continue to leave the state for greener pastures, but they keep making it more expensive for anyone to live here.   >:(

The California State Legislature has just overwhelmingly approved an increase in the car buying paperwork processing fee. It currently is capped at $85 and will now be raised to 1% of the vehicle's purchase price, with a cap of $500. It looks to me as if this fee might also apply to the purchase of used vehicles. If it is really that time consuming for the dealer to fill out a vehicle registration and other paperwork when you buy a vehicle, then the state should reduce the regulations, not increase the fee for filling them out. What a ripoff! I bet it also applies to the purchase of a motorcycle. Adding an additional 1% fee to the already high purchase price of an electric motorcycle is not going to do anything to help anyone wanting to buy one. Here is a news article detailing this fee increase:  https://patch.com/california/pacifica/s/jdtwd/california-car-buyers-face-a-600-higher-fee-under-a-bill-the-senate-just-passed

It's not about helping anyone ,it's about dragging their hands through as much money as they can to feed their ever growing greed and gluttony.

Show me one politician that ever worked to lower taxes and cut government self perceived entitlements to YOUR money.

I understand California pays something like 80 billion more per year to the federal government than it receives.
Rest assured those Californian fees go to help the poor states, increase education and help after disasters, like Texas/Florida/etc. after an hurricane and so on and so forth.

Upon reading the article linked to by the OP I see that the law allows dealers to charge more, but does not require it.  And the money goes to the dealers, not the state.

Corrupt politician pockets get padded by millionaires and large corporations. Who in turn get tax cuts and financial support from the government. That is manned by politicians, many of which are honest and hard working.
Don't forget the armed forces. Aren't they larger than the next 30 countries combined, 29 of which are allies?
