My thought is that this could be an impulse for the major manufacturers to start building and selling more off-road battery-powered motorcycles in California. And once they start doing that here the idea will start to spread.

Indeed. Still a mystery for me that e-bike do not spread more & big manufacturers stay away from them : for daily commute they are a superior solution - cheaper, more torque. The only challenge is higher investment for the user but overall this is a much better deal that electric cars...

I agree. Electric motorcycles are perfect for riding public trails with the family during a camping trip. Honda has brought back the CT125 Trail, which seems to be selling well (considering manufacturing and shipping delays due to the pandemic) and is designed for that kind of riding.  They really should have designed a battery-powered version of the Trail Cub. While it might not be all that exciting to many motorcycles enthusiasts, I think it could sell fairly well and generate a lot of favorable press for the company. It would make a good start for Honda to dip their toe into the mass-produced electric motorcycle market. And where Honda goes, others will follow.

I agree. Electric motorcycles are perfect for riding public trails with the family during a camping trip.

And the range with electric motorcycles on those slow unpaved roads seems endless.
