General Discussion / Be careful out there!!

Just saw this story:
https://www.wxyz.com/news/region/macomb-county/ev-driver-charged-418-at-dealership-charger-listed-as-public-on-evgo-app

That's even worse than the time I hooked up my Zero at a charging station by my local movie theater. I figured I'd get a charge while I watched the movie.  The first hour was free but there was a "loitering charge" I wasn't aware of, and when I got back I had a bill for $15. Not as bad as this poor guy, but still!

Yeah, there definitely need to be laws like how gas stations have to PROMINENTLY post their prices BEFORE you pull into to refuel.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Range oddity
« on: June 18, 2026, 06:00:48 PM »
Here's one I never saw before. I was riding my 2020 SR/F home from Brooklyn and traffic on the Long Island Expressway was EXCRUCIATINGLY slow.  I think I was creeping along at around 12 mph, mostly stop and go. I was watching my estimated range slowly climbing up to ridiculous numbers. First over 200 miles, and eventually over 300 miles. The numbers continued to slowly tick upwards and suddenly, before it could hit 400, it rolled around back to ONE!  The numbers started slowly climbing again and when it hit 27, suddenly it read 357!  Eventually traffic opened up and I was able to cruise at a reasonable rate and the estimated mileage sank down to about 75 with 56% battery left when I got home.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Updated firmware for the Gen3 bikes
« on: March 27, 2026, 02:11:06 AM »
Copied from Facebook:

Dear Zero Owners,

March 25th Firmware Update (BMU V20)
This morning on March 25th, as part of our ongoing improvements, we are releasing a firmware update for select 2022+ Zero models that improves the accuracy of the battery state-of-charge and range display. This update addresses a condition where, over time, the system could overestimate available charge, which in rare cases could lead to the motorcycle shutting down before the display reaches 0%. Following installation, some riders may notice a lower battery percentage or reduced range estimate. This is expected and reflects corrected, more accurate readings — actual riding range is not affected.

See details at www.zeromotorcycles.com/firmware .

Ongoing Security Enhancements
Separately, we recently became aware of potential issues in our motorcycles’ firmware and are taking steps to address them with your safety and security in mind. This work is ongoing, and we remain committed to strengthening system protections across our platform.

We understand how important trust and dependability are when you ride.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,
The Zero Motorcycles Team

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / 2020 SR/F problem using the app
« on: March 14, 2026, 10:41:47 PM »
Everytime I connect the app and swing up my sidestand, instead of getting the dash, I get this. What do I have to do to fix this?

Sounds like good news to me. Now if only they'd deliver the parts I've been waiting over six weeks for...

Other Electric Motorcycles / Very interesting development

https://thepack.news/donut-lab-unveils-worlds-first-production-ready-solid-state-battery-at-ces/

I just wonder if they'll be designed to charge at existing stations or if another "standard" has to be developed for them?  And in order to charge them at their theoretical rate, what kind of infrastructure changes will be required??

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / New Leadership at Zero
« on: October 31, 2025, 05:49:27 PM »
I guess it makes sense considering their global outlook.  Motorcycles do better outside of the US (ESPECIALLY electric ones) and they are relocating their headquarters. Having a multi-lingual CEO is not a bad idea. And (unlike Harley Davidson) this one has experience with motor vehicles (although not the two-wheeled variety YET).

I just viewed Adam Waheed's review of the Zero SR/S on Motorcyclist Magazine's website and I can't help but think that there was something wrong with the bike he tested.  For one thing, he claimed the 17.3kWh battery was only good for about 50 miles, but he CLAIMED he wasn't abusing it. My 2020 SR/F with only a 14.4kWh battery is good for well over 100 miles of combined riding (actual real world experience). He also said it made only 100 lbs/ft of torque, but Zero claims 140 lbs/ft and when Cycle World (their sister publication) put an SR/F (same motor) on their dyno they recorded 146 lbs/ft of torque at the rear wheel. He also kept calling it a "Sport Bike" when realistically it's more of a Sport Tourer due to the more relaxed riding position compared to the SR/F. I'd give his review a C- though he was generally positive in his review in general.

Damon / Visordown Article
« on: October 02, 2025, 06:15:39 PM »
If anybody REALLY looked at what they were promising to deliver WHEN they promised it and knew anything at all about the state of technology at the time they should've known they were selling unicorn hooves and fairy dust.

Energica is no longer competing (and I sure hope they're back soon) but there will be a new electric contender next year:

Electric Motorcycle News / OH FFS (MotoE)!!

https://www.crash.net/motogp/news/1081535/1/motogp-puts-motoe-hiatus-cites-fan-reaction-industry-shifts

I loved watching it on beIN Sports when it first came out, but ever since I could never find any coverage. And now that Ducati introduced a bike with a solid state battery, MotoE would've been the perfect opportunity to stress test the technology. Instead, DORNA pulls this CRAP???  WTF???

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / 2020 Zero SR/F Premium, dash disabled
« on: August 27, 2025, 08:41:02 PM »
When I brought my bike in to get the touring package installed the dealer said they tried flashing the latest firmware update and now the dash is disabled. They worked yesterday afternoon with Zero in California but couldn't fix it so they're going to try again today when the factory opens (we're on the East Coast). Has anyone else seen this happen?
