Been riding my other motorcycle and now my 2021 DSR won't charge, the battery is completely dead.
I tried to charge it with the 120V and with my charge tank, no joy.
I can't find anything online about what to do now. How do I get my battery to start taking a charge?
Well I got the seat off (in case anyone was wondering: it's still only 2 bolts to remove, even when you have the rack) and I found the low voltage fuses just fine, though I was really looking for this one: https://zeromanual.com/wiki/Gen2/Charging_Circuit_Fuse I agree that might be what went wrong, but there were just too many wires under there. I couldn't find it or even see it. Then I started to get scared because there were a lot of warnings about the 100A fuse and how it's not really user-serviceable and I just gave up. I'm sorry.
I put everything back together, and reset the BMS just because it was easy to access and something I could actually do. I doubt that will fix the problem but I feel like I'm in over my head and will probably take it to my dealer. I guess I don't really need Level 2 charging unless I go on a long trip, so I might not get it fixed right away.
Here's another update: My 2020 Zero SR/F Premium has been in the service department at Grand Prix Motorsports in Littleton, Colorado for over 11 weeks now. I brought it there in March to fix this problem where it won't charge.
They asked me to come in last month to remove the eMoto Design double-J charging kit. Fine, I did that, on May 20th. And now, once again, no progress is being made. I'm confident the eMoto Design double-J charging kit wasn't the problem -- this problem occurred sporadically before I installed that. Regardless, neither Zero nor Grand Prix Motorsports appears to be doing anything to solve the problem.
We've had lots of great riding weather. My 2-year-old top-of-the-line Zero has been out of commission for so long now that I've canceled the insurance.
If I could get a factory service manual, I'd happily fix it myself (I have an electronics background, and a Master's in Computer Science). But Zero won't allow us to fix our own motorcycles.
Sorry to share negative experiences, but I don't feel good about keeping this quiet.

I've had 3 instances where my FXE would not start. Many codes showing. All three times it started fine the next day but still showed the engine fault that went away after 30-40 miles. Bike has 2600 miles now and the 3rd fault was just last week. I can elaborate when I get back home Monday from a trip. I just saw this thread today. BTW. I managed to squeak 85 miles out of it on a charge Labor day. The highest yet.
Small update, Zero has no good will left in emAnd maybe I shouldn't expect it, I'm just bummed. After 30k miles the things just show their issues.
Last year I replaced the motor due to its bearing failing, through no fault of my own - paid out of pocket as many others here have.
Currently in a 5+ month process of diagnosing an issue with charging,
1: They make me pay for a charger, $800 and issue isn't fixed
2: Buy a new $400 controller, installed and issue isn't fixed
3: Next up is a $600 harness, which I'm now waiting on..
It got so bad the mechanic basically asked me if I wanted the bike back as is... like they themselves are getting tired of it and I'm the burden for wanting my bike fixed.
The bike ran for 20k+ miles and charged just fine with a custom ignition switch - which I know some of you have done to your bikes too - but they wanna switch that out. So in this enormous process of elimination, parts and labor for the bike since 2016 and 40k miles is now around $4,950 in repairs beyond MSRP, and may be more.
I miss the days seeing customers getting good faith treatment from Zero, which in my opinion was a necessary backing for how small they are.
Hey all, a bit more than a year ago I got the SR/S 2020 model undecided to get the power pack or the charge pack. A week later it was immediately apparent that the bike could use a bigger battery. I then went and purchased and had the power pack installed. Then a month later or less I started having some big issues with the power pack with it logically separating from the main battery and couldn't figure out to use the main battery or the power pack when it turns on. It usually ended up choosing the main battery but sometimes I got terrible indicated range and it was taking from the power pack. I then took it in and they ordered a replacement under warranty for the power pack which ended up fixing the issue after a month of waiting.
Recently in the last 2 or so months I've had some big errors that were thrown after most of the way to work(3 mins till I got there it went from mostly charged to 0 miles left and threw errors 28,31,33,43). I heard error 43 is a bit infamous here. This happened when it was raining of course. I got my bike back about a week or two ago with the dealership somehow unable to replicate the problem with Zero saying they needed fresher logs(why would the error logs not be saved on the bike for a longer period of time? It only took the shop a few days to pickup the bike.) After getting it back and riding home everything was fine while it was dry out. I then rode to work after a rain storm that morning and it threw the same errors earlier in my ride and left me stranded in the middle of my commute with a nearly full charge and the power pack depleted. Thankfully the shop was able to pickup the bike sooner than later from a parking lot I was able to get it to and got an Uber the rest of the way to work. This is frustrating because it gave me these issues so easily with the shop somehow unable to get a diagnosis for it.
I've been browsing the threads and not many people seem to have the power pack. Anyone else having these problems?
This all feels wrong. I wonder if their engineers are proud of this..
I sort of get the software / park assist, navigation, upgrades that you have to pay for..
But a range upgrade... That feels like saying; Hey you bought this hardware, but we do not let you use it unless you pay extra.
For the ZFORCE 14.4+ to have an range extension of 20%..... It feels as if their trick is to use their battery limiter. Maybe in some cases have the battery voltage to drop a bit lower before it says 0%. Or change the maximum torque.
Or the battery has simply more power than 14.4Kwh and they simply do not let you use it. Than it maybe is a way to sell a more expensive bike,,, for a lower price?
My first guest would say that they are playing with some software limits… We will probably know when the manual’s come out.
I don't have the powertank, just the single 13kWh battery
Just got a call back from the dealership, they said the issue is still happening even though they replaced the charger... They claimed Zero said the charger was dead and recommended switching it out, so I argued if the issue is still happening I don't understand why I just bought an entirely new charger..
I'm really pissed, the work isn't getting done - I just have to wait even longer to see if they can narrow issues down
