In a parallel discussion on a discord channel regarding the same topic, sudden load changes appear to be a relevant factor for belts snapping.

So, if you ride nicely paved roads, you are probably less likely to encounter issues compared to someone on a bumpy road or riding in the wild, as you will have situations when the wheel is suddenly spinning free (and thus spinning up quickly) and then ever more suddenly stopping, when some solid surfaces is getting in contact with the tire and quickly decelerating it.

I have no idea how long it will last, but it's probably not a bad idea to have a spare belt.

The problem is:
Carrying a spare belt is easy.
Carrying the necessary tools to switch the belt is annyoing, but doable.
Actually switching the belt in the side of the road (or even in the wild, when you drive a DSR or FX) is a pain in the rear.

I'd rather call roadside assistance in that case.

I wonder if that would reduce the range of the bike. And I also wonder if thicker would really help. IMO, belts breaking are kinda like flat tires. You just cannot predict when or if it will happen.

I'm not aware that Harleys have any issues with snapping belts at the rate as Zero does.
And that is most certainly due to Harley sizing the belts much, much wider.

Yes, that costs performance. Of course!
But if a belt snaps, you have exactly zero performance.

The only place I could come up with was a top case, which ruins the slim siloutte of the SR/F.

I actually carry my cable in a backback. It's actually not that bad.

My SR/F showed the update a few days ago.
Update failed when I tried it on my bike directly. Was hanging for >20 min. in
"Installing ...
Rebooting ..."
before it apparently aborted and presented an error.

A second try via app/mobile phone finally worked.

Really annoyed by the bad software quality Zero provides.

Sorry for digging up such an old topic, but my question is very much related:

1. Did anyone find a way to fix one or two chargers to the bike or replace the onboard charger? Of is everyone strapping it to the tank area?
2. How fast can you actually charge an FX with a 7,2 kWh battery? Is it realistisch to use a 2 x 3,3 kW (maybe + onboard charger) setup?
3. Anyone running a Typ2-charging solution without Schuko-Adapter or something alike?

I would consider a 2022 FX if I would manage to get 6,6+ kW charging.

I don't think there's any way around it though. Faster charging trumps larger capacity I think.

Yes, we (still) need bigger batteries because I do think that 150-200 km at highway speed (130 km/h) should be easily possible in the future. And even the Energica's 21,5 kWh pack is hard pressed to reach that without draining the battery to the very limit unless conditions are perfect.

But, apart from this I think that we will follow what the car industry is doing for quite some time already: Favor high charge speed instead of growing battery capacity ad infinitum.
While the jump from the 28 kWh of my IONIQ to the 64 kWh of the Kona was quite a leap forward, the next upgrade to the Model 3 with 75 (or nowadays 82 kWh) does not change much in regards to how I drive. The range is plenty and I usually need a stop much earlier than my car.

Eventually we will reach that state with bikes as well. It feels like we are trailing the cars by about 4-5 years or so.
And looking at my car which reaches a peak charging speed of 250 kW and an average charge speed of ~125 kW (0-80 %) that means we already have charging speeds of 1,7 (avg) to 3,4 C (peak) for our cars. And I can sustainably reach that, even in hot weather.

So, if we manage to squeeze about 20 kWh of net capacity (needed for 150-200 km of highway range) into a bike then this would mean we should reach a charging speed of 34-68 kW with today's cars technology. Well, the Model 3 is on the market for 3 years already.
Given the 4-5 years delay that I assume between cars and bikes, we could expect to see bikes like this appear in the market in 2022 or 2023. Not so far away as it seems.

Question is: Do they manage to squeeze the car's technology into the form factor and weight limitation a bike has?
I guess: It should be possible. and considering that the current battery pack from Zero (14,4 kWh) is essentially 3 years old already, one could assume that the next leap forward is to be expected quite soon.
And Energica will not stop and watch either. Their CCS capable packs are not too new either (even though the 21,5 kWh pack is). So, an upgrade to the achievable charging speed with a very moderate update to the capacity is not completly unrealistic here.

Charging at >1C is no problem. The technology exists and we have packs that can stand it.
The critical part is clearly cooling the battery.

If I look at my Zero SR/F which is clearly heating up when charging at 6 kW only, I can imagine that 12 kW is already a problem on warmer days.

So, Energica must (already now) manage almost 2x the charge speed and somehow manage to get rid of the excess heat. That needs active cooling, obviously.
But 15 min. to 85 % (assuming this means 5-85 %, so 80 % net charging at the current battery size of ~18 kWh net) this means 14,4 kWh in 15 min, so 57,6 kW charge speed.
This is around 3 C and more than twice as fast as the current Energicas are and almost 5 times as fast as the Zero is.

Again: I doubt that cell chemistry is the issue here. I'm quite sure that cooling the pack is.

I would prefer blinking over nothing any day.
And I do not think that blinking is even illegal. Energica is a European company. So, chances are high that they following the legislation properly.

Actually, this is a safety concern of myself as well.

I love to ride with full regen in my custom mode. But I'm really worried about following traffic not noticing that I slow down significantly by regen braking.
Actually, I think laws in Europe require the brake lights to be enabled when exceeding a certain level of braking.

So, Zero might be in violation of those rules here.

Are Zeros accurate in Europe, or do they make it read high for the bikes sold in Europe?

I haven't checked my SR/F yet.
I only know that Teslas are much more accurate than the average car in Germany.

European vehicles usually all read about 10 % higher than the actual speed.

The reason is very simple:
In Europe the speedometer is not allowed - under no circumstances - to display less than what you actually drive.
It is however (within reasonable limits) allowed to display more.
Due to the fact that the actual speed can in fact differ (e.g. depending on the tire wear or pressure), the manufacturers usually opt to take the save road here.

I use a windshield on my SR/F (but do not change my seating position at all).
I do think that the wind shield lowered the consumption slightly. But not much. Certainly not more than 10 %, if at all.

Biggest impact for me: The wind pressure on my upper body has significantly decreased. So much, that I can comfortably ride at 130 km/h without having to crouch or bend at all. I just sit upright on the bike and it's just fine.

I'm pretty sure that I could lower the consumption significantly by sitting as you illustrated. But I guess then the effect of the wind shield will be less as well.
