The cell is almost a drop-in replacement. The thickness should not be a problem, there should be enough room for the extra thickness.
Charging itself technically is not a problem. The bike will charge and ride just fine.

The SoC calculation will be wrong. I expect that charging works fine, up to the same full voltage. When discharging, SoC will go down at the normal rate, since the BMS will not know these are larger cells. Therefore we'd reach 0 % while the cells still have capacity left. You might be able to continue riding, but only slowly.

The real "problem" here is that Energica reduces power based on SoC, which is unlucky.
So really it would be necessary to change the BMS parameter (cell capacity).
If this is impossible for some reason, we'd have to resort to changing the current sensor (shunt) to read less current, then the SoC calculation will work again.

The cells aren't really the same, since the new ones can be charged to higher voltage.
It doesn't "just takes longer to reach setpoints". You'll have to change a few parameters like max cell voltage in the BMS.

The BMS can't just be "wiped" and you can"put your code on it". It is a product by the company lithium balance,.
It is not programmed, but rather set up using a PC software.

The same job could be done by another microcontroller, but not any Arduino or raspberry with "some code that someone wrote". The BMS has a safety role. Therefore the software and hardware need to fulfill the requirements.

They changed from an older generation of Farasis P32 cells to a newer generation of the same cell.
The old cell was rated for 4,2 V and Energica charged them to 4,15 V (for longevity reasons).
The new cell is rated for 4,3 V and Energica charges them to I believe 4,25 V.

This is where the extra energy comes from. This must be configured in the BMS at least.
The BMS is built by Lithium Balance. There is a free version of their software available for checking, but I believe one would need the 1500 $ paid version of their software to do configuration changes.

I heard that on facebook a guy (I believe he's located in ukraine) has swapped his battery cells for the newer cells. Maybe that's a wrong info, I am not sure. But if that's true, then he might have had the same challenge.

It works outdoor just fine:)
But yea, technically the mt30 connector has no seal.
I love it though, cause it's literally smaller than the cable, very cool connector.

I made it so you can either do wall outlet to bike, charging station to bike, charging station to outlet (for my other moped or something else), and naturally it can be used as a regular extension cable.
Fully modular.
I intend on making a 3 phase version now, but I had to go with a molex mini-fit plus he's, cause I need 5 pins.

I made it using a wallbox electronic package from evalbo for the Type 2 plug that goes into the bike, and an EV electronic package (just a PCB) from evalbo for the Type 2 plug that plugs into a charging station.

I did ride at around 0°C battery temp and it rides just fine.
Power is reduced significantly.

Below 10°C charging does become really, at 0°C charging is only 1 kW I think, so barely charging at all.

I had the video call with Energica. It took 45 mins instead of 15.
Very experienced and relaxed guy from Europe at the other end.
He was somewhat high up in the company and gave me interesting insights.

Overall, the relevant news that I can share simply is that they're actively rebuilding the company in all ways one would expect. They are working on it every day without delays, it's just not public. There will be good news coming within the next year.

Hello Aaron,

it's nice you're excitced, but there is just so much wrong here, I will not bother to explain everything.

Here is some info (and opinion):
- The BMS is the s-BMS made by Lithium Balance
- The config software is s-BMS PRO: 100640.99 for about 1500 $ (here's the manual, see for yourself https://lithiumbalance.com/wp-content/uploads/LiBAL-s-BMS-PRO%E2%84%A2.pdf)
- all BMS slaves are connected in a daisy-chain, electrically they're all meant to be (and are!) in series
- don't "wire anything in parallel" unless you really mean to. It is generally avoided in HV batteries to parallel any strings
- I'd love to see the cell replacement happen, but it's way way harder than you imagine right now. You'll have to find cells that fit in C-rate, capacity, physically, and in terms of contacting. Then you'll have to design this new package and build it, which requires dangerous steps, and the end result must be flawless, since it is a high power battery pack.

From my experience in prototype HV battery pack development, I think you're most likely looking at best case 3-6 month project (full time, if you're an experienced engineer).

Interesting.
The temperature increase is proportional to the waste heat energy.
The waste heat energy is waste heat power multiplied by the time.
The waste heat power is I^2*R.

If you're charging at twice the speed, it'll have 4 times for waste heat power but only for half as long.
Therefore I believe that at half the charging speed you'll also get half the overall temperature increase.

Basically the the temperature increase is inversely proportional to the charging speed, rather simple to remember.

Hello,
you should find the electrical diagram easily, it's available on the internet.
Your Killswitch problem is caused by the "seat switch" I think. That's a switch that detects that the seat is closed, otherwise it won't go into drive mode.

That's my numbers come from my 2021 non-RS Eva Ribelle with the Cascadia/Rinehart controller. No Corsa clienti.
Interesting..
On a 2021 Ego RS (I believe also with Cascadia/Rinehart controller, not 100 % sure though) I am seeing 120+ kW as well.
But I haven't ridden this bike enough to be able to say anything about different SoC.

Mmh I am consistently getting 125 kW indicated above 95% SoC, going down to about the 107 kW at 85 % SoC and below.

Ah yes, you are correct.
The oil of the pre-EMCE motor is only circulated through the motor and never to any radiator, so I didn't really count that (even though it's an important design feature).
I read somewhere that on early bikes (might only have been the race bikes) the oil was actually cooled by a radiator (or indirectly with a heat exchanger to the water loop, idk). But they found that's not even needed so it was made into a closed system.
