With the belt off and I rotate the sprocket by hand you can feel a magnet hit a stator point inside the motor at one degree position. that sound you hear I believe is that clash, most likely due to a bearing and or shaft issue.

I have a 2016 Zero FX with the same kind of sound. Zero and dealer says it the motor shaft and that motor has to be replaced. $1,500 parts. its out of warranty. here is a youtube video with just the motor running with the belt disconnected.
