Range estimate is important. The issue is, that Energica (as well as Zero) are very poor estimating it. Energica calculates range based on consumption of the last couple of km. If this is 2 km downhill you get a range of 500km. This does not make sense since there is no 500km downhill road on this planet. Same is true if you are 2km uphill and the range is calculated on a 200 wh/km range.  Guess what: It gets downhill once you are at the top of the hill. I have done my own estimate reading data from OBD2. I take average consumption of the day as well as long term average in calculation and I find it very accurate. By no means rocket science.

yesterday I had a good confirmation of the importance of the sun, with the battery going to yellow only by driving after sitting in the direct sunlight by ~35°c with no charging that day, I would not have guessed that was even possible.

I think this is expected. The battery is going to yellow if above 45°c. Heating up 10 degrees while riding sounds fine to me. As i tried to explain: There is no reason to avoid yellow battery temp. This is fine. Try to keep the battery between 45 to 50 degrees. Keep in mind that means only charging 80 km of range. Than go for the next ride.

May be this does not answer the question, but it might be interesting anyway. I have connected a OBD2 dongle to my Experia for a year or so and gained some data I would like to share with you.
First graph is a charging session on DC from 10% to 70%. Ambient temp was 24.8 Celsius. Learning from this graph:
  • 10% SOC increase heats up the battery ~2 degrees Celsius
  • <= 40 deg Celsius you get full DC speed
  • > 40 deg Celsius <= 50 deg Celsius: DC speed throttles down 1KW for each degree
  • Although not visible from this chart: > 50 deg Celsius DC charging speed will dramatically throttle down
Second graph is captured while driving the same day.
The blue area in the chart reflects the consumption. Most interesting is the yellow line (battery temp in Celsius).
Learnings from this chart: The battery temp increases while driving. The increase is partly due o increased ambient temp (green line), but as you can see it gets ~10 deg Celsius higher than ambient temp after 220km of riding - this was the time of the charging session. After DC charge the battery temp is 49 degrees, a delta of 23 deg Celsius to ambient temp. The battery temp than decreases while riding to 44 deg Celsius. It looks like it does not decrease further (18 degr above ambient temp).
The last chart is captured while riding at a day with two (short) DC charge stops. For me it is evidend, that the fundamental findings are still true.

This would be my advise if you want to ride long distance:
Keep the battery as hot as possible but below 50 deg C. Reason: The hotter the battery the more it will cool down while driving. Below 50 deg Celsius you still have acceptable charging speed.
Charge DC until charging speed drops to ~16 KW (49 deg C batt temp)
Ride  ~80km and bring down battery temp 5 deg C. Riding further will only decrease SOC, but not significantly battery temp.
This 5 deg delta will allow you to charge up ~25% SOC. If you drive very efficient you can keep running this way.

All data I captured is in Summertime and riding in the mountains with lots of regen.

I also have regen always at level 3. Works great for me. I also tend to disagree, that the value is limited. If you go downhill 1000m, I think you physically gain 1 kWh (depending on your weight). On my Experia this is roughly 5%. If I keep the throttle between coasting and full regen with no breaking I can gain ~2-3% SOC. Although this is difficult to calculate since the Energica only gives full SOC percentage the efficiency is still remarkable

Thanks!!! This was also my thinking. I just wanted to double-check:) Looks like reading this sort of data from OBD2 (lowest_cell_voltage_mv, pack_capacity_ah) is kind of pointless since you can't trust the data.

Reading through my generated logs from OBD2 I realized, that from time to time I get a significant imbalance of cells with an average mv of 4000 and Lowest_cell_voltage_mv as low as 2100. This year I see this far more often than before (may be once a week). The chart shows Lowest_cell_voltage_mv over time.
Is this something I should be concerned of?

Any idea if there is a Rim Paint Pen in the market that fits Zeros "Bronze Effect"? I guess a hint on correct RAL number would also work :)

Yep it's definitely inconsistent. Definitely should read 114, though.
I am not an expert, just observing things since I sit on a ton of data I pulled from OBD2. My observation is, that there is a correlation between reported pack_capacity_ah and SOC as well as reported range. The calculation of SOC and range is potentially incorrect since there is no reason for pack_capacity_ah to be so inconsistent. I am guessing, that Zero does some magic calculation to estimate the current value of pack_capacity_ah to put degradation into account. But this is just a guess. All I know for sure is, that the calculation sucks.

I have seen data between 93 and 112. Currently it says 104. This is more than 20% delta.

It should never be anything other than 114.
I would like to disagree. Please also look at https://www.electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=10424.0 I have seen in August 2020 a value of 109 where remmie got 106 and Hans2183 got 112. This is by no means constant 114. Since I log data on a regular base I know for soure that at least my data for pack_capacity_ah is changing over time (see my chart reflecting the last 3 years)

My information is my personal experience. GrantMeStrength, have you tried to actually buy the parking options? As far as I know you should be able to buy. Just try it out.

pargil, as far as I know you can't update the charger firmware on your own / through the app. If you had your bike in service the last 12 month, propability is very high that you have a working firmware. I just looked up my old log files. First time I can see firmware 2 was May 29th 2022 (I hade a dealer visit this day). If your dealer connected the service laptop and clicked on "Update all" the chargers are updated.

Please note: The most current firmware on the charger is 2.06.

Although you can't upgrade on your own, you can read the firmware of your chargers. You need to access the MBB console with a laptop connected to the OBD2 port. The command "charging" wil do the trick.

Hi Tony,

I own a 2020 SR/S and bought both options: 10% charging upgrade and parking mode. Both options require the right firmware. if you dashboard shows the option "parkmode" in grey your are good to go and can just buy it through the cypher store. With the 10% charging upgrade you need at least firmware 2.0 on the charger(s). If you have 2.0 you are also good to go and can buy the option through the cypher store.
The required dealer work is the firmware update if required.
Please note: If your dealer is not too far away I would recommend to do the upgrade at the dealer. Dealers have a dealer code to enter into the App. Your dealer might offer you the cypher upgrades at lower costs! The firmware updates are at least at my dealer for free.
I am very happy with both options. You can upgrade the two internal chargers, but not the chargetank. I definitively get the full 10% - even a little more.

What do you mean with "charges only to 97%"? Is the dashboard still on next morning indicating an active charging session? Or is the dashboard off, you swith on ignition and see only 97%?

If it is the latter: I have the same issue.
  • the bike charges up to 100%, does the loadbalancing and shuts down the charging session (dashboard is off)
  • Next morning you switch on ignition. Dashboard indicates 97%
I tried to re-charge again. The bike kicks off a charging session and charges with very low Amps may be 60 seconds. After this the SOC jumps to 100% in the dashboard and stops the charging session.

I think that the BMS software has some problems to determine capacity and SOC. I have a raspberry pi permanently connected and log stuff like pack_capacity_ah. I think this parameter should be constant with some degradation over time. But this is not what happens. I have seen data between 93 and 112. Currently it says 104. This is more than 20% delta.

Thanks for your feedback! I can now confirm, that 204 and 206 both works with the charger upgrade. I get now 13.018 kWh charge speed on AC and 12.429 kWh on DC if charging on a public 22KW charger. This is indeed 0.6 kWh more than what I got before the upgrade.

Quick question to the experts in this forum: I own a SR/S Premium with chargetank (12KW charge speed). I live in Germany where we have a 3-phase electric system (220V) and bought the 10% Upgrade (Cypher Store).

If I run a test on a single phase I can see 11% higher charge speed. Currently I can't test on all 3 phases since the Battery temp is too low and SOC too high to max out the charging speed. But I have read before and after the update data from the MBB console during charging.

Apparently charger 1 is now on Ver 206, but Charger 2 still on Ver 204. Does someone know if 206 is a requirement for the 10% charge speed increase? In this case I would not get the 10% increase on charger 2?

@zeronimbus, I also get from time to time DEBUG messages - but have never seen that many. Normally you can just ignore them. If you can't type in a command, your serial line settings might be incorrect.
