Figured i'd give an update, in case anyone came across the same issue, as it seems to be resolved.

The fault appeared to be a dead BMS.
Zero and the dealer ripped the bike apart for several months. They replaced the controller and main harness (the big taped up fucker with a contactor in it), which removed some symptoms but not the problem. They then replaced the BMS system, and i finally have my bike back in working order.
To zero's credit, they did all the work under warrantee, and the shop that did it, busted their ass to find the issue- so if either of them see this post, you've got nothing but positive vibes coming from me.

AS i look back, i believe the problem was manifesting small issues long before the outright failure, but i couldnt isolate the issue. So long run, i believe the BMS was likely bad from the near start, but managed to run until it finally crapped out altogether.

Issues prior to failure:
-Bike notifications worked initially (finish charging, etc..) then after maybe a year, just suddenly stopped one day. Connecting remotely would show location and battery status, although frequently would not reflect plugged/unplugged.
-Throttle faults, cleared and recurred. Unknown if they will come back. No issues found during service.
-Dc/Dc low voltage fault, again, cleared readily. only happened twice, about a month or so before the failure.
-One time it reported that the bike had fallen over, when i know for a fact it had not. It hadnt recorded the event in the bike logs either, just sent me a notification to stir anxiety i assume.

Issues AT failure:
-Bike suddenly stopped, as if in a SERIOUS state of regen. To the point of being near impossible to push, even with key off. The motor causes a physical drag as if the leads are dead shorted (which considering the failure, they MAY be)
-Numerous critical faults. Battery not registered, invalid battery, basically a handful of serious random faults.
-Bike will turn on, reflect the pack voltage properly despite the faults, which will not clear, and the bike will not enter a ready state.
-Bike still impossible to push in keyed on state.
-Plugging in a charger cable will result in no response, the bike would not wake to charge or acknowledge the plug.
-Connecting remotely would still show the battery status and bike info.

So they gave it back, and after a very awkward moment of "how the fuck do i ride this thing again.." it runs like a champ.
Bit of a shudder at low speed which it didnt have before, like a heavy vibration while accelerating around 20-60kph or so- it goes away as i speed up. Makes me think there's maybe a phase or calibration issue to be tweaked. anyone heard of that before?

I only say regen because its clearly building a charge somewhere. If i leave the bike for about 10 mins, thwre is no resistance for the for about a foot or so when i try to push- like normal, but then a counterforce builds, like someone is holding the brakes suddenly. I ha e a background in Electronics- so this wierds me out, because i imagined this was a field effect motor/ without permanent magnets, which Would mean it would have to get an excitement charge from somewhere to fire up the field coils, but just pushing wpuldnt be enough to do that without the bike providing juice too. Am i wrong on that?

The app doesnt show anything odd, it still connects remotely, shows battery level, the whole deal, but wont connect to a charger.

What caused the first two battery replacements? ive noticed the magic charging happening on my bike recently, but its usually small, like ~6-8%. LIke ill get home with 65%SOC, and come back the next morning to ~72

That makes sense that it would be in the neighborhood of something typical. SO if the interface is sorted out, im curious what their software looks like. Like i know they need to change things in the bike software for little things like changing incandescent signals to LED versions. I can only surmise it would be something horribly proprietary

5
Are there special intermediaries, software or hardware needed? I dont mind my local shop- but my zero loves, and i mean LOVES to break down before long weekends. Not to mention my bike is already out of warrantee, so i wouldnt mind tinkering or at least knowing how to tinker in the future

NO idea where to go from here. Have a 2020 SRS, no reeeeeal problems so far, 17k kms. I frequently get a code 4, throttle fault which clears, and i just recently started getting an infrequent DC/DC converter low voltage fault, which also clears.

I was just out riding, nothing crazy, just city driving, was at about 55kph. All of a sudden the bike HARD stops on regen, and faults out on a code 58 "Battery fault", then code 31 "Battery ineligible". I Barely dragged the bike to the side of the road, because the wheels seem locked into regen mode.

The bike will turn on with the Key, but it keeps coming back up with those faults, and will not move. It shows no response to a charger being plugged in. The worst, and i mean THE WORST part- is that even with the Key off, it is in regen, and i can push it about 2 feet before the resistance locks it up and its almost impossible to push.

Any ideas? I had the most recent software update just a few weeks ago.

Mine did that a few times.

Controller was fried. Overall failure symptoms were erratic and would change. Even had the bike run fine for short periods. Still, controller dead, irreparable. Changed controller, all good. Big symptom is that the bike refused to stay functional long enough for me to download any logs.

Hope that's not it on yours

I'm hesitant to try reconditioning, when i bought the bike the marks werent there, but they started surfacing out of the plastic slowly, until they were bright white and visible- so i think the fluid soaked nice and deep into the plastic. the plastics themselves are cheap, i just wanted to make sure that if i bought replacements, i could install them at home with no plastic welding or needlessly complicated bullcrap

My existing plastics have brake fluid staining/marking quite bad, but i think i could recondition if needed. I do want to add the charge tank so i can use conventional EV chargers, but the tenderness from my initial purchase is still sore.

And the ebay listing looked good, but it lacks the actual charging ability, its just the plastics

3k for a plug and plastics is a hard pill to swallow. anyone have a leftover hanging around that they're willing to sell for a reasonable price?

My 2016 SR has white spots on the tank plastics, looks like someone spilled brake fluid on it, and it just keeps resurfacing. Looks like birdshit, and keeps bleeding back out. Oh well.

I read something about plastic welding on the tank- is there anything overly complicated with replacing the tank plastics? Can i just swap it out with basic tools?

Update:

Turns out the plug had been compromised/damaged prior to me purchasing the bike. Was basically a ticking timebomb waiting for me to get enough water on the bike that it would get in and fry the controller.

Dealership played the "no warrantee, you bought it as is" card. Insurance said it was a manufacturing defect (never bothered calling the shop, looking at the bike, or even looking at the pictures that the shop took. Told me no, fuck off, and stopped answering my calls), and zero initially agreed with the shop after discussing it with them, saying it was unfortunate, but ultimately my problem.

So my $15k bike was tagged with a +$5000 repair bill just to put it back on the road after one month of ownership, with no wrongdoing on my part- pretty shit deal eh?

SO. After the initial options were exhausted, i contacted the regional Zero rep, asking for direct communication and elevation of my issue to whoever i had to bug.

I ended up talking to a guy from zero directly, i'd love to say his name, but i dont want to potentially cause him any unintended hassle, but despite what i have seen in some of the other posts, i gotta say WOW. A few phone calls back and forth, and they covered the damaged parts for me, and made sure i was taken care of. Looks like i'm still getting tagged for the labor on the install, but it's still a hell of a lot better than the prior number (and the labor is out of zero's hands, understandably). The customer service i got from them was top notch, i'm very happy with how they dealt with it all, especially considering the bike had been out of warrantee for a while.

Not an ideal situation by any means, but looks like its likely resolved. Keep your plugs safe, people.

I have absolutely no idea. Isnt the controller under the seat? I bought this bike because i was sick of pulling apart my last bikes to keep them working. And here i am, i changed the handlebar, with another stock handlebar- havent screwed with or messed with anything else, and its dead anyway. I havent unplugged anything, i havent shifted or adjusted anything, i havent washed it (i havent owned it long enough to even WARRANT a washing), nothing.

As for living somewhere wet, i live in vancouver. Pretty sure vancouver is about as wet as it gets, without being underwater. Even the dealership says water isnt an issue for these bikes. then followed it up with a, "well it killed yours though" essentially. Cool. Glad i could be the one in a million.

And heres an update.

Yes, water killed it.

I just got a response from the shop. Water was found in the controller plug, and the controller is dead.
Water killed my SR.

Yeah I cant see it being water at this point either. I cant find any water in anything beyond the handle clusters, I cant see anything actually wrong that I feel comfortable pulling apart. I tried the Bms resets, it did nothing.

So I have a completely dead bike now that wont ride, charge, or even download logs. And its everyone's winter break right now, so all the local shops and even zero HQ is closed. Figures.
