I find the SS9 to be scary fast as it is. Why would anybody feel they want more power than that, away from a race track?

Yeah me too, my Esseesse9 is much more powerful than any of my previous bikes, Wee Strom DL650 and CB500X

I test rode the Eva and went with the Esseesse9 for looks and comfort.

I had Limp mode appear at 18%. Now this was at 10°C at highway speeds, on a day where I hadn't recharged/balanced overnight, and after CCS charging from 20-80 multiple times the previous day.

Wasn't riding aggressively though. Just 120ish (km/h)

Yeah, unless someone maintains it, it should be shut down... I would help maintaining but I don't have any experience with Wiki maintenance. It's obvious that at the very least some access restriction is necessary.

Heads up: we received official word from Energica (Benelux) that the firmware update which is currently being rolled out (Firmware 36) contains a fix for an issue that (at some 'bad' CCS fast chargers) could cause blowing a fuse in the battery.
- riders who don't have the new firmware yet are suggested to turn CCS charging to max. 60A until they have the new firmware
- riders who do have the new firmware will see the maximum amperage is no longer 80A (for 2018-2019 bikes I think, before it was 70A) but 75A instead
- this lesser amperage will not necessarily mean a slower charge, because the bike will stay at the new (lower) max A for a little longer before throttling down.

In fact, this had already been brought to my notice by @MVetter after I reported my experiences with quick charging; however we have only now received confirmation that the 75A instead of 80A is indeed caused by the new firmware.

So, I'm pretty sure this is what 'fast charge current tuning' and 'improved safety during charge' were about ;)

Firmware updates normally take ~30 min to complete they are normally done during regular service but contact your dealer if you would like just your firmware updated.

Thanks. I was still waiting for this info from my dealer to come and share it here, no more need for that now.

Can you elaborate on the long range connectivity stuff? Does it apply to all bikes, or if not, from what MY on?

Energica / 2020 software update?

Hi folks,

my dealer told me there's a software update waiting for my 2019 Esseesse9. However, he couldn't tell me any more than this (and that it takes about 1,5h to apply them...  :o )

Anyone else already received the 2020 update, and can tell something about it? (changelog would be nice)

I thought I saw a set of 'miles per 8h day' lines in there before. I found that very interesting and now it's gone (or I'm blind). Care to elaborate why you took it out? Too confronting for the Zero owner? or not fitting with your own experiences?

In any case, good job on maintaining this file, it's educational. (nevermind, I see it's not yours but Tony's)

IOW, an average of more miles added per minute charge on the older battery.

So if they both charge at 26 KWH max, it seems the older battery is  more efficient than the new.

Well, the new battery is already smaller and lighter (at least for the same capacity) than the old one, I hadn't expected it to ALSO be more efficient.

We need some room for improvement for the next generations, right? ;)

Anyone here found out how to use ABRP for our Energica bikes?

For those who don't know it, https://abetterrouteplanner.com/ is a website which specializes in planning routes for electric vehicles, taking battery size and other vehicle specific info into account.

However, they don't have profiles yet for e-bikes.

I haven't found how I need to fill in my own custom profile in order to have something that approaches our bikes' behaviour, but maybe one of you has?

It's the phone that causes the display to blank out in 30 minutes. It is also the phone that goes to charge mode when external power is applied. Those are the two main things that I want fixed.
I understood that. However, a decent app would have an option to prevent your phone to go to sleep.

The other thing you describe doesn't exist I think. You'll always have to turn on the app manually. Though you might find a combination of apps which allows you to turn on an app (the Energica one) when the phone detects your bike's Bluetooth.

That's true, you can turn them down and ride in rain mode all the time ;) in the hands of a mature and restrained person, they are totally safe.

On the other hand, nobody in their right mind would recommend a 1000cc bike to a new rider, or a 600cc sports bike for that matter.

I would argue that the Zero S or DS are safe enough for a new rider, the Energicas are probably a bit much (though the Esseesse9 is in fact quite gentle, in my experience).

I still consider myself a rather new rider, with only about 5 years and 50k km of experience (on Honda's CB500x and Suzuki's DL650, mostly).
