Finally did the conversion on my 2019 FX, with a Brembo clutch master on the left for the rear brake, and ditching the rear brake peddle entirely. Also, just bypassed the ABS. 72" cable is the right length.
Naturally, it's all a matter of personal preference, but I absolutely love the change. Helps immensely with riding comfort and having all brake controls at my hands fits with my 30 years of mountain biking experience (though front/rear are at opposite hands).
No more "dead foot" after long technical descents, or foot cramp on long rides.

Want to second the best wishes to all affected by the fires.
I have a 2019 FX and as a mtn. bike replacement started out on the trails. Granted, I'm mostly doing easy-going sight seeing but the FX regularly took me 30+ miles out and back to the middle of nowhere on some pretty sketchy surfaces with no problems.

So, I'm in the camp of having learned to trust the bike. It gets the job done.

My impression is that this thread is based on extreme treatment, and maybe some tech issues.

Yeah, I've broken spokes and bones on my mtn. bike; so I have some sense of what it would take to do the same on the FX.

And the noise about failure rates is clearly just that, noise. Dealers? Yeah, well, dealer quality varies . . .

Hopefully the air clears up soon and everyone's enjoying the ride again. Cheers.

Further thanks for the above. Appreciate the tips and tricks. Yeah, I'm sure if I make the switch there will be quite a few rides where the right foot will be wondering what's missing, and I'll be crossed up on the levers from my mtn bike experience. . . Good thing I'm mostly away from traffic.

Good observation. I am not a mechanic, but since I have that measurement in my notes, I suspect one of the mechanics I spoke to asked for it when contemplating how much line to buy. They may have overlooked the ABS component location. I would also retain ABS, even if I mostly ride trails; because it is good to have on the road & easy enough to switch off.

Yes, I'm an ex-mountain biker and have been thinking the same. I have an FX and did a bunch of research last fall (but snoozed on it). I checked my notes and they point to the brake kits available at stuntfactory.com (Zero did not appear to have any conversion kits). My very rough measurement for the line from left handle to rear caliper is 6+ feet. If you go for it, let us know how it works out. I would love to ditch the brake pedal.

Did a 58 mile out and back today: 14 miles tarmac, 44 miles trails, very moderate speeds (4.5 hours), ~1500 climb then descend; pretty surprised to have 25% remaining at finish.

Hey, Mr. Bill. Good question. I am running Pirelli MT21 "RallyCross." Big hefty knobbies that are also street legal. Love 'em equally well on dirt and pavement (but will note that I limit my road experience to slow narrow / windy country roads). Cheers.

Yes, welcome. Much more street bike traffic (pun) on this site than FX/offroad; but agree with Say10 above, FX is a lot of fun. I've had a 2019 7.2 since August (first motorcycle ever) and am loving it as mtn bike replacement for dirt road cruising, and even a little dirt bike action up the ridge from my house. One potentially helpful stat: I appear to get 60-70 offroad miles at 10-30 mph with plenty of elevation changes. Also, I'm sticking with the 0-maintenance belt, but understand folks prefer chain for harder riding. Enjoy!

Hey ZNRL,

Sounds like you were out at Poleta. Great to hear about your experience and trail range.

I've been scouring riderplanet-usa.com for up-coming winter holiday riding opportunities. Poleta looks great but is a long long drive.

I'm planning to hit Evans Flat, Spangler Hills and Jawbone Canyon (weather permitting) over the Xmas break.

May try Interface and Black Springs (Arnold area) for a short weekend trip beforehand.

So far, the FX has been great for trail riding. Simple operation, good set up, plenty of silent power, and plenty of range.

Hope more people discover what the FX has to offer.

Hi Team,

Last weekend I cruised Tassajara Rd. off of Carmel Valley: 34 miles, 5 hours, 7000 feet of climbing, and 55% charge at finish.

Bike handled it all just fine, though I may not be doing the final 4 miles to the Zen Center too often in the future.

Yeah, I got an FX and put knobbies on it for cruising Tassajara, Hollister Hills and the forestry roads up in the Sierras; which means two things: (a) range is a key factor bc there's no mid-trail charging options, and (b) I'll very likely never encounter thermal issues. I'll update on whether the 7.2 battery gets me far enough for daily exploration rides. So far, bike is great.
