Parts, Mods And Hacks / DC Power Source Available at Work...
« on: August 09, 2019, 10:59:02 AM »
Hi all,

For a bit of background, part of my job at my company involves engineering EV powertrains. That means we have a programmable DC power source to charge HV battery packs and the power to match available (see spec linked).

https://magna-power.com/assets/files/datasheets/datasheet_ms_4.2.0.pdf

Is it possible that I could use this power source in the DC aux inlet on a 2017 Zero SR to charge the bike quickly at work (less than the 1C rate obviously)?

I have read of some people using an aux charger while the onboard is running in order to taper the charge at the end and finish with the onboard. Heard this also keeps the bike on.

I saw on the unofficial manual what the Anderson connector is for that aux input, but what other signals/communication/etc goes through that port besides the DC +/-?

Thanks for the help in advance! Not sure if I'm going to jump into this but wanted to know the extent of the project it would turn into :)

Note that I just talked to Hollywood Electrics and they confirmed this will fit any Zero S/sr/ds/DSR model year 2015 or newer.

Zero Motorcycle charge tank for 2017 models. Allows fast charging using the J1772 ports available nationwide in the US. Comes with all connectors (J1772 inlet, battery outlet, onboard charger wiring, CAN wiring) in order to start fast charging your bike.

This came off a bike with less than 1,000 miles on it and was garage kept for its whole life.

This charger could also be used for EV conversion projects if that is more your style.

I'm going to suggest $1200 as a selling price, but please make me an offer.

I am located in Southern California if that matters.
