I know there are folks out there who "count" Tesla's based on federal registration of VINs.  I can't imagine someone who understood this process couldn't do same for Zero's.

Silly layout question along these lines... This is my garage:


There is only 1 outlet, notes at top right (1), near the pedestrian door to enter the garage from the house.

I run power to my workbench by pulling off an overhead light for small things or running an extension cord the the real tools.

I have the Zero and 'back it in" at the top easily after rides.  I will be purchasing an electric car this August.  I have very easy access to the entire wall where the current outlet (1) is on.  Some cars feed from the front, others from the back (Tesla).  I'm wondering where might be the best place to put this 50 amp circuit.

I originally thought just next to the current 110 outlet.  The Hyundai Kona EV powers from the front, but the Tesla Model 3 back left.  Not sure where the Leaf is charged from.  The Zero is easily moved around the garage and I don't need the J-plug for it anyway. 

I'm wondering if I shouldn't put it on the ceiling in the middle where it could easily be moved to either side of the garage, front or back, for future use.  I used to hang my air compressor hose up there in a previous house.

I am also thinking of running a single 50 amp circuit, but putting in 2 outlets, one at the front and one at the back, along the same wall.  Only additional cost if the outlet ($5) and some extra wire.  Obv couldn't use both at the same time, but would allow flexibility and potential future proofing.

Thoughts?

With many people upgrading to DigiChargers and other fast charging systems, if anyone has a "Quick Charger" (or 2) that are just collecting dust, I'd be interesting in buying them second hand.

Is swapping a charge tank or power tank a rider DIY job or must it be done at a dealer?

I ask as I have a (used) 15 SR and was wondering I could be on the lookout for a user power or charge tank.  Someone not too far is selling a 16 DSR with charge tank.  Was contemplating making him an offer for the charge tank if a) the 16DSR is compatible with the 15SR and b) it's something I could do easily enough, to remove and button up from his and then install on mine.

I watched used Zero prices for almost 18 months before finally finding an economical deal.  $7k for a 15 SR with 3k miles.

I never knew of all these problems reported on this board.  Hoping I experience none of them and have a wonderful summer of riding.  Only have 400 miles, having bought it in October right before the temps dipped in the NE.  But 350 of those were "replacement" miles for my car.

I want the additional tank batter, I want fast charging, but adding those costs greatly extends the pay-off period.  As I ride this summer, I'll learn if greater range or faster charging will give me more utility for the bike.  Or do I enjoy this for a couple years, then buy a new/er one with those features?

Thanks all, you confirmed, the tongue weight, plus the rotational effect of a motorcycle - the Outback is not the solution.

The place is 130 miles away, if I can't make it weather-wise and time wise (to recharge en-route) then I'll just leave it at home :-(

I have a Subaru Outback with a trailer hitch.  IIRC, the tongue weight limit is 200lbs.  I swear this is the same limit as on my SUV I owned previously as well.

I would like to bring my Zero with me on a trip next month for use while out of town on the daily driving.  But the bike weighs what, 450ish pounds.

I'd like to use one of those hitch carriers rather than a wheeled trailer.  But I just don't think that's possible with my vehicle, and probably for safety reasons if nothing else.

Can anyone confirm this?  That if I want to move the bike, I need a proper wheeled bike hauler?

Just want to make sure I'm not missing anything.

Thanks so much for the revision.  Now...  Can you find a way to break it into 2 pieces that would fix on a "mini" printer with 120mm bed?  Note that's about 110 useable when you print with a raft.

I'm thinking break in the middle with a 'key' type connection.  If I had the source in a format I could put into OnShape, I would try this myself.

I had been looking for a used Zero for about 9 months.  They would rarely pop up here in the northeast.  And when they did, they'd be $10+ easy.

When I'd contact them, they'd all say "Blue Book says it's worth $11" or "I paid $18 for this, I can't let it go for less than..."

I'd tell them all, "I'm not saying you're bike isn't worth that, but it's not to me.  Please let me know if you decide to drop the price."

In Sep, 2 bikes popped in the Philly area.  An SR for $9900 and DSR for $9500.  I contacted both, the DSR guy, although polite, is convinced he'll get $11+ for it in the spring and won't budge at all.

The SR was funny...  responded with a counter, but still too high.  I watched as the Craigslist ad kept dropping.  Went to $8500, then $8000 and then last week dropped to $6999 and I was on the phone, called off work and rented a truck before 10 AM.  Under $7k for less than 3k miles for a 2015 SR 12.5.  No complaints here.

No idea what the guy with the DSR is going to get come spring, me thinks he's in for a rude awakening.  I would have bought it had he dropped the price, but at the NY Motorcycle show, I sat on one, way too high for my comfort, glad I found an S-series.  Must say, I have no need for the "r" but the price was right, it's just gonna be in Eco mode most of the time though.

Know this is an old thread, but wanted to fire of a big THANKS to DukeCola for posting this guide.

Ordered my bars from the local dealer and got them literally the next day by mail (they had set in stock).  Definitely would not have been able to do this without the guide!

Didn't go as easy as I had hoped and even the guide is missing a couple things I would have liked to seen.  Thought about taking some additional photos and adding to what's already here, alas, I did not, and survived without. 

Took 2 hrs, but I am satisfied everything is perfect and as designed.  Here's hoping they're never used now that they're installed!

Just bought a 2015 SR 12.5 last week.  It is parked in my unheated but attached garage.  It's cold, but not frigid.  Battery is about 90%, but it's also 30 degrees outside.  Instructions read:

> For long term storage (>30 days) of your motorcycle, you should reduce its state of charge to
> ~60% state of charge prior to storing it.

Short of taking it out and riding it, is there any way to discharge the battery?  Turn on the ignition and let the light drain it overnight?  Car thermotmetr usually reads 45-50 when I start up, that about what the room will get to.

Thoughts?

The warning light will blink as long as the kickstand is down or the kill-switch is engaged. As soon as the kickstand is up AND the killswitch is off you should have the green circle/arrow.

Thx so much - was very worried, honestly couldn't sleep last night, did I just buy a lemon.  Much relieved.

Now that I have a phone where I can connect, for a VERY NEW motorcycle rider, stick with Eco mode or further retard things in custom?  Can anyone provide a link to a repository of good 'sets' of custom settings people have found useful?
