I wish I’d seen this post last week. I ordered that same exact model of handguard  from Amazon. Arrived yesterday, and tonight was when I found out that they won’t work at all. I can appreciate that everyone is praising the barbuster Storm, but I just can’t see spending over $100 for a wind protection handguard. I feel like there has to be a cheaper solution - especially since the Hanperal and Storm and pretty much every other model all seem to specify installation on 7/8” bars. Why does the Storm work when the Hanperal doesn’t?

I don’t know how many miles it had. I got the bike with ~11k and put on ~4k. I think the belt looks OK besides the break - I think I just hit on the perfect storm of accel+bumps and it just snapped. How many miles should I get from a belt normally?

Thanks for all the input - I’m going to check with the Allen Zero shop, and maybe join AAA to get the towing if necessary. After I make sure the Allen shop can and will do it for a max of 2 hours, I’m going to call Eurosport and ask why I was quoted 3-4 hours for a 1-2 hour job. If he rolls it back and says it was a mistake, ok. If not, I’ll get it to the Allen shop and stop going to Eurosport.

I’m on a 2015 Zero SR, on the side of the road with a broken belt. Anybody have knowledge of whether regular motorcycle repair shops will work on it? Also a recommendation for a Dallas shop would be useful. Otherwise the closest shop is 29 miles away.

I bought my 2015 Zero SR a few weeks ago, and my dealer wants $122 (out-the-door price) to buy and install the 12V accessory socket. The part on Zero’s site says $50, and my dealer says 30min for installation. My question is: if I just buy the part through the dealer, is installation really very difficult? I’m not a mechanic, but I feel fairly comfortable about looking at assemblies and being able to figure stuff out. Is the socket install just a plug’n’play item, and then securing the wiring against movement?

I’d like to save the ~$50 of the installation cost if I can do it myself. Also, would the socket be a generic device that I could get elsewhere for less? I sort of don’t think Zero could have a proprietary 12V socket that is required for their bikes.

I just finished at the dentist. Went home, did a couple videos. Sent them to your email, but they were kinda big, and I’m not a videographer. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯  You’ll get them at some point, soon I hope.

Thanks for the replies! I test rode a 2018, it didn’t sound anything like this noise. It was actually pretty silent. Thanks to your replies, I have better descriptive words for it, too. Now I would not say this is a whirring, but more a growl, maybe of the bearings. It isn’t until the bike moves that the sound starts, and naturally louder as I move faster. If the bike is switched off and I’m maneuvering it into place, I don’t get that sound.

Do those pages have sound files to listen to? I didn’t see any.

I do want to take it to a dealer (though I’m afraid of the diagnosis) they just aren’t super close to me and I need to plan that trip.

New rider, new owner. Got my M license back in May this year, finally bought my first bike just today: 2015 Zero SR.

I’ve been driving electric cars for 4 years now: first was a leased Ford Focus Electric, then last year I bought a 2015 Chevy Spark. The Spark was actually new and had been sitting in a Maryland dealership as a demo - they offered it for a mere pittance of $15K. Since it was new, I was still able to get the $7500 federal rebate. I’m in Texas, and at that point we didn’t have a state rebate, but my wife works for Bank of America, and they had an incentive program offering $4K for purchasing alternate fuel vehicles. So I got a brand new EV for essentially ~$6-7K, including tax title license and shipping (I had to ship it from Maryland to Dallas).

And now I’m on a Zero SR, though my wife is very distrustful of motorcycles and isn’t letting it become my daily driver for a while. I recognize I’m new, so I don’t really trust a 17 mile commute through Dallas traffic either. My plan is to practice riding in the evening and on weekends.

So that’s me, sorry it was such a long post.
