I have a 2017 SR with a charge tank.

The other day when I went to plug it in to a 120v outlet, the plug sparked brightly and I could smell that something in the bike had burned. The bike was keyed off and now it no longer "wakes up" upon plugging in to charge.

Luckily, if I key the bike on while it's plugged in, it does charge, so the charger itself has not died.

Today, I plugged in a J1772 plug into the charge tank, hoping that I'd get the 3.6kW of charge, but I only got 2.2kW. I'm guessing that means that the charge tank engaged but the belly pan charger did not.

I assume the two issues are related. I'm assuming there's some communication module between the belly pan charger and the rest of the bike that has burned out, but I don't know for sure.

Given the symptoms, is it possible to identify the failed part with confidence? I'd be happy to replace the part myself, but I'm not familiar enough with the bike's internals to diagnose the issue.

Looks like the tail has been chopped ever so slightly. Also I notice the tank doesn't seem to have a J1772 inlet, so I guess F doesn't mean "fast charge."

It also obviously doesn't mean "fully faired" either. (This was my personal hope, so shucks.)

I guess at this point it must mean "fighter"?

Edit: On second thought, those sneaky rascals could have moved a J1772 plug to underneath the seat or something. Hard to tell if the SR/F has a split seat... maybe it does, and maybe that's why. Anyway I'm not holding my breath, I think the F means fighter from this point forward.

Dang! Looks like I picked exactly the wrong time to buy my SR.

Whoops! I should have specified that I'm personally curious about S/SR tires, but if you guys want to share your picks for your DS/DSR or FX/FXS, then by all means. (Thanks buutvrij!)

I bought my bike used and the PO put some ridiculous hard-compound touring tires on the bike that don't exactly inspire confidence when leaned over in a turn. Maybe it's all in my head but I'd like to put something a bit softer and rounder; what does the forum recommend?

I saw according to the unofficial manual, the newer MY bikes come with Pirelli Diablo Rosso II's. I see the Rosso III's are out now, but apparently not in the OEM-recommended sizes.

The other line I was looking at was Michelin's Road 5. I had Pilot Road 2 and 3's on my last bike and loved them, apparently the Road 5 is the latest and greatest (having dropped "Pilot" from the name) but again, they're not made in Zero's OEM size.

So maybe the question is a two-parter. Not only what tire have you got but also, have you stuck with the OEM size? If not then what size are you using and how has it treated you?

I hear you all saying the plate angle is just too much. Although I'll personally stick with the original, I don't mind posting a new model with less of an angle for everyone else who might want it. I'll use the image that sync posted with his improvised braces as a guideline.

I should be able to have it done over the coming weekend, or hopefully sooner.
