I’m having the exact same issue but without updating the firmware. Last year I got around 1% per mile, now I’ll be luck to hit 70miles driving around country lanes with the 12.5kwh battery.

I loose the first 10% within 3 miles of riding.

The battery balance is always great but something doesn’t seem right and the idea of testing using power monitors as flattetyre suggested is not the ‘professional’ way to judge health.

Hi,

I’ve seen lost of posts with people using power monitors and various methods to assess the power going in / out of Zero’s to gauge the health of there batteries and the capacity.

Is there a way to ’professionally’ confirm the health of the battery? I’m guessing dealers and service reps read the logs or plug into the serial terminal.

Does anybody know how a dealer or zero would assess the battery properly? Is there a way we can get the same result using the bikes software? As a dealer would?

I have access to a serial dongle and terminal and know how to download the logs.
My zero is a 2015 S but I’m guessing the approach would be similar for all 2013+ zero’s

Diodes ordered and should be with me by tomorrow. I’ll let you know how I get on.

I’ve also ordered a switch to embed into the connector. I like the idea of the additional charge start / stop signal to allow everything to be disabled properly before disconnection.

On the 3 vs 1 phase point, we do have some of the 22kw and 43kw chargers you mention, it just appears the bulk of mine in the north of the U.K. are only 7kw. Once they start upgrading them I’m sure I’ll change my connector setup.

Just to check are we talking about the same connector? Your diagramme title is ‘J1772 signalling circuit’ and you mention 11kw stations.

For the U.K. system we have the Mennekes connector and 7kw or 43kw (I think) outputs.

On the L1, L2 etc setup for multiple chargers I had the same idea initially as I have two TC Chargers and the onboard, however the number of chargers that just offered single phase 7kw has pushed me down a different route.

I’m considering having a second cable for the multi phase approach.

Not sure I like the idea of connecting the Anderson Aux to B+ through a 100k resistor as described in the post. Something doesn’t feel right about using 116v to signal charging?

Sorry, yes LiPo is not correct, however they operate in a similar manor for the purposes of charging.

Correct term - Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt: LiNiMnCoO2

Apologies if this has been covered, I’ve been searching with no joy.

I’m using a EU Mennekes Type 2 charging setup. Bought the connector and cable to wire to my Chargers (DigiNow / TC Charger - see separate debate, please don’t start one here!)

I need to understand the pinout for the connector. What I have at the moment is as per the attachments...

PP - 220ohm resister to PE (earth)
CP - ?? Not sure what to do with this - connected to PE directly ??
PE - Earth
N - neutral
L1 - live
L2 - not used as only need 7kw
L3 - not used

This works fine at home, but none of the charging stations I try recognise the cable as connected. They just sit there waiting for me to connect.

I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong here but think it might be the CP pin as none of the instructions say what to do with this.

Can anybody please help?

Wow, didn’t expect all that from what I thought was a relatively straightforward question! Brian, love the work you’ve done so far - I’m a big fan and wouldn’t know a fraction of what I know today without the unofficial manual.

So far I’m gathering that I can use the two pins on the aux port but nobody is sure if this is a 5v signal, a 3.3v signal or simply a resistor.

If this point could be resolved it would help me out a great deal.

On the TC Charger point, they work great. I’ve been working with lipo cells for some time and understand the bulk of the science. My TC chargers are programmed at the factory for zero’s (cc-cv 116.4vdc) and although DigiNow will provide a better solution with CAN bus coms and a slightly different charging profile, for me personally it doesn’t justify the extra cost. If the zeros operated in the extreme ranges of the cells I may be more cautious but at 116v this doesn’t come close and any ‘special’ charging will make negligible difference to the life of the cells. I keep reading a lot in these forums where people try to make things appear more ‘special’ than they really are.... it’s a LiPo and a BMS folks! Oh and the BMS does the clever balancing of cells, not the charger!

I do have an Arduino to CAN-bus interface board available and if I can’t find the Aux connector solution I will intercept the messages and simulate the onboard charger, however that’s always a lot harder that soldering a resistor and a switch!

Hi,

I have a 2015 S 12.5 and I’ve added a couple of TC Charger to the ‘tank’ area which gives 6.6kw of charging.

Does anybody know how to keep the contactor closed and in charging mode with the keys removed? I know the belly pan will do this but want to be able to charge without it.

If I had an official charge tank, the instructions are to close the contactor with the key which I don’t mind doing, however when I remove the key the contactor opens.

Do I simply join the two small pins on the aux connector to tell it I have a charger connected or is there another ‘enable’ wire in the harnes that the official charge tank would use?

Has anybody figures this out?
Put simply I’m looking for a ‘charge mode enable’ signal that doesn’t need CANBUS

Thanks for the tip on the spring. The main head scratcher at the moment is the location of the magnet. I haven’t a clue how it’s seated with the rest of assembly, hence the hunt for photos.

Hi,

Fellow Zero owner here. I was attacked recently by gravity, broken collarbone but more importantly bent handlebars! I’ve replaced the bars but in taking the throttle off the old bars, i had to open up the assembly (due to the locator pin). Unfortunatly the unit came apart before i had a good chance to see how it goes together!

Does anybody have and pictures or assembly instructions as to how to assemble the throttle? I know it should be fairly easy and usually i have no problems with this sort of thing but it has me stumped. I’m at the point of suspecting i’ve lost a bit!

The throttle is a 2015 Zero S with the magnet.

Please help!?!
