Thanks Pargil and Gary. Still mad at Zero but I feel much better now, I really do, as HAL said once.

Turns out the dealer cant come get the bike until this Tuesday so that gives some time to try disconnecting MBB, and maybe save some trouble. Do you have to have the MBB connectors off for a length of time, or just disconnect reconnect? Are they hard to remove, or fragile?

Procedure I followed, not sure if it needs this:
1, disconnect 12 v battery
2 revive 6 bolts and lift track just enough too access MBB
3. The 2 clips are ready to remove.  It is just a matter of pressing in a tab so a lever is released.  Once you rotate lever you can pull the clips out
4. Left disconnected for 30 minutes
5.  Reconnected everything, there dash reboots and everything back to where it's was.

So I had my bike lock up twice when trying to update. The first time I swore I would not try to update again but I was fooled that this last app version corrected firmware update issues and stupidly tried again. The display would remain on and keying on or off would do nothing.  Also disconnecting the 12v battery and pulling the MBB fuse did not resolve the issue.  Each time the only thing that would resolve the issue was disconnecting battery, pulling the tank and disconnecting the 2 plugs on the MBB.  It would return to normal but not have applied the update.i guess I won't get the firmware updated until I can ride the bike the 60 miles into the dealer to have them do it.  For a bike so dependent on computer software to run, it disappoints me Zero's software is so bad.  I used to be a huge proponent of Zero, talking them up at the bike meets.  Now I would not be able to recommend the bike to anyone.  Shame, I would really love the bike if it only operated the way it was advertised.  My 2003 Suzuki ICE bike is more dependable than my 2020 SRF.  This will probably be my last Zero.

So I had the same problem with the bike not rebooting during the upgrade.  My dash remained on no matter what I did with the key.
 As said in the post above, disconnecting the 12v battery turns off the dash but as soon as you reconnect, you have the same problem.  The post above had the solution.  Remove the tank and you will find the MBB mounted on the left side of the storage box.  Pull the 2 connectors and leave them off for a while.  When you reconnect them and the 12v battery, the bike reboots as normal and dash stays off.

Zero really needs to up their game in the software department.  The bike's software is sketchy.  The app is almost useless.  Firmware upgrades other than at the dealer are frustrating at the best, impossible at the worst.  My "connected bike" shows it is not connected 99% of the time.  For cutting edge tech, my SRF's software features feels like it was designed by amateurs.  Maybe Zero needs to invest some of the money they are getting from all the bike sales into getting a better software team.  Sorry about venting my frustration but I just spent the last hour trying to update my firmware from the app and got no where.

The remote connect on this bike is a joke. It has not worked correctly from day one for me. Most of the time my bike location is weeks old.  It rarely updates any of the other information.  I had my bike to the dealer twice to fix. The second time they even changed the sending unit and told me it should be fine now.  It wasn't.  Shame that Zero markets this as a "connected bike".  I don't know about others but my bike shows it is not connected 99% of the time.

Not sure if you guys saw this or if it was posted a while ago.  i was just watching the new Sena 50 commercial and the SRS had a prominent role in it.  I guess the HD speakers sound much better on a silent bike.   Nice seeing Zero come mainstream.

So I had added a bunch of mods and accessories on my SR/F so far (bar risers, windshield, top box, tank bag,etc) and I have a bunch more I'm waiting on in the next few months (power tank, corbin seat, center stand, lower pegs).  One of the best mods I made is when I bought a $15 set of mirror extenders.  I used to have to move my shoulders anytime I wanted to see behind me with the stock mirrors.  On my ride yesterday I was reminded again how much easier it is seeing behind me with these extenders.  They are cheap and take about 10 minutes to install.  I wish all my accessories was cheap and easy like that.  For anyone interested here are the ones I purchased:

The one thing I wished the Zeros had was a reverse function.  It really should be a easy issue on electric bikes.  I would think it is more of a software programming thing.  Have a switch to run engine in reverse and have a programmed safety limiter so you can only go a couple mph.  But I am not an engineer so maybe it is harder. I deal backing up without it but it would be nice.  Anytime I find myself complaining about backing it up into my garage I just look at my 650# ICE bike and I don't feel that the Zero is that bad.

So I'm guessing once you use the Corbin style configurator and design your own seat, it is going to be a custom make.  Probably they sell so little Zero seats, all are custom made.  Mine was quoted as 4-5 weeks.  They said the heated seats are a little more time.  They are also behind being they had just reopened after the shelter in place restrictions lifted.  So I guess I can wait the 5 weeks.  Hey I've been waiting since March for my power tank to be installed.  I guess during these crazy times we are in, patience is a necessity.

I never understood the need for someone to come on a Zero forum and bash the bikes comparing it to the brand they prefer.  Look down a couple of makes on the board and you will find Energica's forum.  People on that forum would probably agree with you which is the better bike.  In the meantime, most of us considered the two brands when we were ready to by and went with Zero for a reason(s).

Wow are you following me.   ??? After going back and forth for months that it is too expensive, the stock seats are fine, my ass hurts, the corbin would look so nice, its too expensive, Friday I finally said what the hell.   I also ordered the heated option.  Hey you are spending that much money on a seat, mine as well have a warm ass in the winter.  If they had a massaging model, I may have considered it.  I went with Navy blue seat/tail, gray leather sides to go with the blue SR/F (and my favorite 2 colors).  Now it is just the long wait.  I think I will put a thumb tack pointy side up on my seat between now and then so when the corbin arrives and I make the switch, I will be so much happier that I spent $630 on the seat.

Glad to see it working again.  Sometime this spring, I will take my SR/F apart and make sure all the wire contacts have a good coating of Di-electric grease.

As for the update issue, I am guessing you are trying to update via an android phone over bluetooth.  This is a known issue for a while.  The guy who works on the android app needs to be slapped around a little so he fixes all the bugs..  If you have access to a iPhone, it seems to work much better using that (that developer should be given a cookie).   I have successfully updated to Ver 17 using my work iPhone.

I agree with all the reasons above.  US labor costs are at a premium.  Just ask Harley and Indian.  You don't see their bikes selling for the same prices as Hondas, Yamahas, etc.  I think another reason Zero bikes cost what they do, is for the quality of their products, this is the going price.  Look at the price of the Energicas and the Livewire. You can't compare Zero's bikes to some of the cheap Chinese electric motorcycles.   TZero sells for what people is willing to pay for it.  Yes maybe they would get more customers if they drop the prices but that would mean a huge investment in a large automated manufacturing process.  Now it will be interesting what happens when the big 4 Japanese manufacturers come out with their electric lineup.  If they keep Zero's quality while drop the price due to large scale automated manufacturing, then it will be tough for Zero (and Energica) to continue as they are now.  Will they change or become an expensive niche bike like Ducuatis, BMWs and Aprillas.  I guess in the next few years, we will see.

Try turning the bar.  If you want more you can either go with the SRS bars (I am guessing it would fit) or bar risers.  I really like my risers.  And all it took was cutting a few wire ties and loosening the cables.  I guess changing the bar would be a lot more work but a little neater.

So this just made me think.  Jamie, your bike is a 1999 model. 21 years old and still running.  My ICE bike is a 2005. 15 years old and it still runs great.  I wonder what my new Zero would be like when it hits 15-20 years old.  I am going to guess, it would be dead long before that.  That is one thing I have to give to the old ICE bikes.  They will outlast anything electric.
