Stephen,

I have had the same thing happen on my 2017 EVA - oddly enough, also on the 405 fwy.  I sympathize with the fact that this is scary - it's as if the chain snapped when it happens.

That said, I was also having issues with an unstable throttle control.  When the throttle was partially open, I would sometimes feel the bike surging and when checking the display, I could see the power bar jumping around erratically.  Energica replaced the throttle control assembly and I have not had any problems since.

Have you noticed any surging or weird throttle behavior?

Energica / Re: Ohlins suspension, spring rate
« on: July 02, 2019, 12:58:31 AM »
I think the stock set-up is okay, and the bike as it comes feels much better than the Zero DSR I previously owned.  See if you can get a test ride on an Ohlins equipped Energica, then decide if you want to do the upgrade.

Energica / Ohlins suspension, spring rate
« on: July 01, 2019, 08:52:15 PM »
I was not completely happy with the stock Bitubo/Marzocchi setup that came with my EVA so i had it replaced with the Ohlins package.  The Ohlins was a big improvement, but I had difficulty setting up the front forks.  I had a minimum of 35mm sag with the preload dialed to the limit.  I discussed with my dealer and they sourced replacement springs (12 instead of 11.5). This seems to be just what was needed, the bike is now much better under braking and feels like what I am used to from my other bikes.  If you decide to order the Ohlins forks, I highly recommend you consider ordering with heavier springs than what is normally shipping from Energica.

Energica / Unstable throttle on Eva, new issue.
« on: March 23, 2019, 11:18:15 PM »
I jumped on my fully charged bike to start the 50 mi commute home from work last night and noticed the bike was surging.  I switched display modes and could see that no matter how steady I held the throttle, the torque reading was bouncing around by about 50%, sometimes less, sometimes more.  The bike was totally controllable, since throttle off was always off ditto for accelerating, but something is definitely up with the throttle control software.  I have FW version 002041.028. No error codes thrown.  Has anyone tried connecting to the OBD2?  Can you get throttle position info from that?

Thanks for any comments or advice.

Energica / Xmas tree lights on dash of EVA

Is anyone else out there wanting to turn off the tattletale lights on the dash when the throttle is opened wide?  I find these really annoying at night.

Energica / Re: Real Ego/Eva road trip range?
« on: June 13, 2018, 02:43:57 AM »
I'm about to buy a 2018 Ego, but want to make sure it really can do ~80 mile or more at 70MPH. Anyone have real world data on this? Energica says 80-150 miles, some people on here are saying 60 miles...anyone know the real cruising distance? (Sorry for spamming the other subjects before starting this new one)

I have an Eva and I can get about 60 miles on a charge driving between 60 - 80 mph.  If you can keep it to 65, I think 80 miles is possible, but I have not proven this for myself.  Don't worry about the first 10% battery reading, it drops that much in the first 5 city miles, but settles down after that.

Energica / Rear Stand

Does anyone out there know of a rear stand that works well with these bikes?  My Powerstand for my old R1 has too much lift.

Energica / technical drawings of bike
« on: May 13, 2018, 11:47:31 PM »
I recently purchased an EVA and I'm trying to learn about the engine oiling, gear reduction and inverter cooling system.  I have been able to find very little information, but became even more curious when I noticed that the owners manual specifies changing the "motor oil" every 6K miles.  If it's just for cooling, why would do you need to replace it at all?  Is there a pressurized lubrication of bearings?

Energica / Re: Energica Eva 107 vs Zero SR
« on: May 06, 2018, 10:27:54 PM »
Ultranr,

I also have a Zero, a 2017 DSR. I've been happy with all aspects except the chassis which rides poorly to me.  I have experimented with suspension adjustments as has the dealer a couple of times, but what I find is that small bumps seem to make the chassis vibrate for a period. This can be especially annoying if I'm on the freeway and I hit a series of expansion joints or other bumps at a particular rate. If the pavement is bump free, the ride and handling are fine, but if the chassis gets going... not so good. I have never felt this happen on my other bikes. My conclusion is that it has something to do with frame stiffness or lack of it.

Enter the Energica Eva, I just picked it up, but the ride and performance feel similar to one of my previous bikes a BMW K12RS.  The ride is slightly firm, but feels very controlled and familiar.  Hopefully the range will not give me too much trouble since twisting the throttle (is that what we still call it) is fun well beyond where the Zero tapers off.

Question to you and other US based owners, who are you buying insurance from?

I keep my registration in my wallet along with my driver's license.

I have all kinds of luggage mounted to my Zero, including a Givi top box, Cycle Case soft saddle bags, a RKA seat pack, a Marsee tank bag and a small gear bag (bought from Best Rest, I believe) Velcroed to the inside of my Zero touring windshield. So there are no lack of luggage options, but none that I would want to store my registration in. Because duplicate DMV paperwork is such a hassle to replace, I prefer to keep it on my person.

Richard,

Thanks for your response and others.  Have you posted photos on the forum of your setup?  Apart from my small storage problem (I usually carry a tire plug kit with my reg), I also need some solid anchor points that I can use to tie parcels to.  I'm thinking the top box frame might do the trick.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / storage location if you have a charge tank
« on: December 30, 2017, 08:07:05 AM »
Hi,

I am a noob to Zero, but I bought a 2017 DSR today with a charge tank.  My first rides have given me a great impression of the bike so far, and I'm looking forward to many gas-free miles, but, where to put the registration?  I have the charge tank option so I don't have the storage compartment in the tank I have seen discussed.

Any good options that owners here can recommend?

Many thanks

Don
