Seriously.  As nice a guy as you'd ever care to meet, too.  Totally self-funded, and he's kicking everybody's ass. 

Sorry for the "tone", but over the years we've been called tinkerers, garage- home- shade-tree builders, whatever.  It annoys the b'jeeses outta me.  I know a handful of guys personally who've built some of the most badass machines out there, and to call them "home brew" doesn't show them any respect.  Add that to the fact that some of them get on here and are criticized and "corrected" by guys who haven't built or designed anything, ever, and yeah, it's a raw nerve.  Hell, when the Livewire was going around, my own bike could beat it on speed, acceleration, and range, yet I still get that it's a "home brew" and I'm a "shade-tree mechanic".

"Custom Builds", "One-Off Customs", or something similar would be a vast improvement to the heading, IMO.   ::)

Gotcha.  Yeah I figured since it was a pretty rare discount (out of my control) and I'm really not making any money on the book (it was pretty much financed by the Kickstarter project, it's self-published at really tiny margins - it helps my drinkin' money account a bit, but that's all I can really expect), I could get away with an occasional post like that as a way to give a bit back to the community.  Let me know if you feel I've overstepped. 

Just gave a friend a copy to pass on to Jay Leno btw! He's doing some work for Jay, and I thought he'd enjoy it...   ::)

The code expires after the date indicated.  in this case, November 30th at 11:59 PM, could that have been the problem?  You have to be careful of cutting and pasting spaces as well. 

Regarding the other comments, I'm not sure I understand.

Yeah, for the record, if you want to discuss the pros and cons of the original ETEK motor, the place to do it is on whatever thread you wish to start yourself.  It's bad form, in my humble opinion, to do it on another member's "For Sale" post, unless you're interested in buying it and need questions answered. 

Otherwise, you're just trolling the thread. 

I'm happy to answer any honest questions by any legitimately interested buyers.  I will say, when I say "high speed ultralight motorcycle", I'm obviously not claiming the motor would be good for a 150mph+ superbike.  It does work for a near-100mph 210lb bike. I can say this, because I've used it briefly in a Yamaha 350 frame with a tiny lipo pack, and it could hold it's own against any gas 125cc track bike.  I switched to the (twice the weight) ME1003 because it made it so I could pull wheelies.   ::)

Well, now, then I guess you don't want it.  (It always baffles me when some guys say that kind of thing.  Is that your way of trying to negotiate?  Or is it just a flat-out insult?)  At any rate, I'd been holding on to it to put it in a boat (it's original intended purpose, designed by John Fiorenza) or an ultralight, high-speed motorcycle, but it'd be worth that to me just to keep it and put on my shelf in a glass case.    :P

It's weirder than that:

GM was working with Sumitomo Special Metals, to develop a more powerful rare-earth magnet for their starters. On one particular occasion, when they asked for a mix of Neodymium and Iron, the result was a batch with remarkably good qualities, well beyond expectations. Trying to determine the reason for this kind of unexpected performance, they stumbled on the cause. Apparently the technicians used a crucible that hadn’t been cleaned properly. The batch had been contaminated with traces of Cobalt from a previous job, resulting in a Neodymium-Iron-Cobalt mix and an astoundingly strong magnet. A patent was granted the Chinese company and lasted well into the early years of the 2000s.

I think of all the stuff I learned putting the book together, the bits on motor (and magnet) development were some of the most interesting, and told the most about how tech development actually happens.  For example, do you know how those "rare earth magnets", specifically Neodymium-Iron-Cobalt were, well, "discovered"?  Would you believe it went hand in hand with GM and the Corvette?
