Very helpful, thanks Keith!

Hi all,

Well, they're multiplying! Just added an FXS to complement my SR. What a blast the FXS is! I didn't think I'd ever be able to ride one, given the seat height, but Hollywood Electrics lowered it for me and it's perfect. (If you need a little vertical help, definitely talk to them, they have a short version of the OEM shock they'll swap with your original, and likewise for your seat.)

So I have a question about charging the batteries off-bike: Is there a particular order in which the bike draws power from the batteries? for example, does it deplete the front one then move to the back? Or does it draw from each equally? I'm just wondering in what order I should go about charging them when the bike gets low on charge? Which should I pull first?

I appreciate any other tips, as I found the manual a little sparse in this area.

thanks!
Christina

And definitely check with Hollywood Electrics. They offer shortened stock seats and shocks. (They'll send the shortened version out to you and let you trade in your stock one for a discount.)

Cool, thanks Sean!

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / 2017 FXS 6.5 Modular vs non-modular?
« on: June 14, 2017, 12:37:21 AM »
Hi all,

I haven't been able to find info that explains exactly what the pros/cons of the FXS modular option are (other than it being $500 more.)

Obviously the ability to remove and charge the battery off the bike is the main advantage... what are the other differences between modular/non-modular?

Also, is off-bike charging possible with the included power cord, or is there any special charging hardware necessary for that?

thanks,
Christina

Also, if you ride the SR, Eco mode might be somewhat helpful in getting an idea of how lower torque feels in the S/SR form.

I don't know how Eco mode on the SR translates to the response of the S 6.5, but my dealer said it would give me some sense of it, and that the S 6.5 was more spirited than the SR's Eco.

Hey AtlDinan! I'm glad you discovered the Zero and are looking into it before you pulled the trigger on the BMW. (Not that the F800R isn't a great bike, but the Zero is really a breed apart!)

And, since you're already an EV driver, you have a good understanding of the advantages and things to consider about the Zero vs an ICE bike.

In the first 2 minutes of my test ride, I knew I had to have one.

There may be exceptions, but all the dealers I talked to don't stock bikes for immediate sale, only demos (which of course they'll eventually sell.) When they ordered my SR, it took less than a week to get it, but I'm just about 100 miles from Scotts Valley.

I looked at 2016 demos, but even given the savings, I ultimately went with the 2017 due to the ZF13 battery (if you're in fact looking at the ZF13, and the fact that 2017 models' software can be updated remotely, without having to go to the dealer.)

Hope you can test ride one this week; please keep us posted!

Jorg, congratulations on the upcoming addition—very exciting! I got my SR earlier this month and just love it.

I don't know if you're looking only for a hard case, but for a relatively simple/inexpensive solution that can be easily removed or moved to other bikes, I like the DrySpec D20. They aren't huge, but collectively can hold a fair amount of groceries, tools, shoes, etc. They're waterproof, and they seem quite durable and high quality.

Thank you both! I'm going to go with the SAE connection, that should accomplish exactly what I need.

Appreciate the help.

Hi all,

I'm new to electric bikes (just got my '17 SR, and love it so far), and I'm wondering how to wire my GPS (Garmin Zumo) up to power on the Zero. On my ICE bikes, I just used ring terminals and connected the leads to the battery... but I'm not sure how best to connect it to the Zero.

If anyone has any suggestions, I really appreciate it! (And I appreciate detail as far as connectors and the like...)

Thanks very much!

Good point about the warranty, Jaime... that's important.

Also notable about the firmware updates. These are important things to consider, and I'm glad I asked!

Thanks again, all.

Thanks so much, all. You've been very helpful. Found a 2016 demo SR at a great price! If I o it, there will be more than enough savings over the 2017 S to get a Diginow... I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for that, Shadow. Very helpful. So other than a slight power bump, and the unlimited mileage warranty, there's really no substantive difference btw the 2016 and 2017 SR?

Hi all,

I’ve been lurking here for a while, and appreciate the great information and conversations.

I test-rode the SR last week, and fell in love. I have a couple of ICE bikes, but this will be my first electric.

As far as the type of riding I do, it’s mostly around town. I definitely appreciate a little torque, and having enough power to pass or get out of a situation when I need to, but I don’t race and I’m never going to be  a speed demon.

I’m about to order an S ZF13.0. I can’t see myself ever getting close to needing/wanting the power of the SR. It’s just not the kind of riding I do.

My question is this—other than the additional power of the SR (for which the S will definitely meet my needs/desires, and then some), is there anything else I should be considering? I imagine the resale value may be a little better on the SR, (but probably not more than the delta between the two MSRPs)? Suspension, brakes, etc are the same, correct? Anything else to think about?

thanks!
