Thank you for your reply. At least I know now that I'm not alone with this situation. Interesting was today when I stopped riding the bike the SOC was around 50%. Without charging I continued riding after roughly half a hour. At this point the display showed only 40%. It looks like the displayed numbers are inconsistent and 2014 owners have to live with it.

Hi to all of you
Recently I came back from a very long trip (165km) on my 2014 SR 11.4. I just went out of juice 3 km before my arrival at home. Normally I never ride the bike in such low battery stages. The display still showed up a range of 12 kilometers and a SOC of 6%. During acceleration the range and SOC dropped suddenly to zero. I could not restart the bike. Is there a possibility of a problem with my bike or is this behavior known to you? Could it be a wrong calibration of the display? In general I'm very happy with the achieved range.

Perhaps I have found the solution for the intermittently disabling throttle. It could possibly be corrected with a firmware update. I don't know if my dealer is willing to work on my obsolete 2011 XU. I will post more when it is fixed. See below.

Zero Motorcycles released a statement announcing that they intended to recall 667 motorcycles due to faulty firmware that may cause the bike to lose power while running, potentially resulting in a crash.
According to Zero, “the subject motorcycles have a controller firmware that may react to infrequently encountered signal faults.” In layman’s terms, the signal to the motor controller may drift over the course of extended use of the bike, causing the motor to shut down sporadically.
The models in question are as follows:
2012  Zero XU: production date 10/21/2011-7/25/2012
2012 Zero S: production date 10/21/2011-7/5/2012
2012 Zero DS: production date 10/21/2011-4/3/2013
2013 Zero XU: production date 1/31/2013-5/21/2013
2013 Zero FX: production date 1/25/2013-6/20/2013
2013 Zero S: production date 1/21/2013-11/8/2013
2013 Zero DS: production date 1/24/2013-10/21/2013
Some owners have claimed that Zero has known about this problem for some time and have been slow to respond to the issue. Zero stated in their defect notice, that they had recognized there was a problem as early as September of 2012.
Zero has said it will remedy the defect by updating the motor controller firmware and configuring it to compensate for the signal drift. According to the NHTSA, the recall is expected to begin in mid-January and will be of no charge to owners.

This thread might be old, nevertheless I have exactly the same throttle behavior on my 2011 XU. There is no beeping and no error visible. Once it just stopped while driving. I have sent Zero support an email but they didn't even respond. I'm not really happy with an unreliable bike. One thing I have seen is that the sensor at the sprocket was lit. Perhaps the problem has something to do with this sensor. What is this sensor doing exactly, does anybody know? Has anyone of you managed to solve this issue?

Hello to all
This is my first post here. I'm a owner of a 2011 Zero XU in Switzerland. My XU had a very bad battery when I bought it, so I made a battery conversion with the following Lipo Cells

Unfortunately they sell only 6S packs so I had to rip one pack apart to achieve 14S (2 complete packs and 2 cells of one). These are 20Ah so I put together 14S 3P. This gives me a total of 60Ah at 58.8V when full. If I would do it again I would pack another 20Ah pack in the original compartment, it should fit as far I can juge. I have used the original XU BMS, and the onboard charger works well with my conversion. So if you want a 4kWh (80Ah) pack in the original box it can be achived  ;D.
I added a temperaturesensor and an external voltmeter to the dashboard to have more information. When the pack is discharged at full throttle the temperature rises to 55 degrees celsius, perhaps it would be a good idea to add a fan and a vent to the pack. The energy meter (gas gauge) reads nonsense, momentary it tells me that it is empty after just 20 km of soft riding, I can go on with riding for at least another 25km and the pack is still not empty.

So here is my question: Does the display calibrate itself for the new bigger capacity of my pack over time or do I have to live with the wrong display of the SOC?
