No Problem!

These cells might be a good solution provided they are configured correctly for sustaining the load :

Buy Sell Trade / ME Motor - All SOLD [Calgary, Canada]
« on: August 26, 2018, 08:13:40 AM »
I am cleaning up the garage/office as I will be moving out of the country at the end of the year.

I am located in Calgary, Canada. Prefer local pickup but I can ship most items. Buyer will pay shipping cost(s). Batteries will not be shipped.

1) Motenergy ME0201014201 6hp cont. 19hp peak  250USD/325CAD

Kelly KLS7240S 24-72V 350A Sinusoidal Brushless controller with heatsink BOTH SOLD.

I bought these Items on another forum and I took them out of the box just to take pictures and post them here. I bought them for a light motorcycle project but then I bought a Zero and never used them.

A lot of connectors and cables are included in the package. The fan cover of the motor is a bit damaged (see pic)

Specs:

2)Additive Bike Bag V2 - 90USD/115CAD SOLD

This bag was used only a few times as I sold the bike it was intended to be used on. It's basically new.  Paid over 180CAD new.

3) Zero FX 2.8 bms & parts - 20USD/25CAD O.B.O. SOLD

These parts were taken from 2 Zero FX 2.8 battery modules.

4) Zero XU 2011 Battery Frame bars SOLD

These bars are removable with a screw and hold the battery in place for the Zero XU 2011. They should be interchangeable with other early Zero models.

5) 2011 Zero XU Battery Box SOLD

Battery box, it's missing the back plate where the BMS attaches to.

6) Various Cells / Batteries - These items will not be shipped SOLD

Various batteries, some of them new, most of them recovered from other projects. Most of them are working. I used these mostly for testing when recovering or testing if a motor/controller or ebike was working or not in different configurations.

Hello!
Thank you.

I built a new battery with Nissan Leaf cells. It was the easiest and cheapest solution I found. I am in Canada and cells availability is limited here compared to the US.

Buy Sell Trade / Zero XU 2011 - Less than 500km, new battery [SOLD]
« on: July 21, 2018, 11:53:45 PM »

The Bike is SOLD

For Sale is a 2011 Zero XU.

$3500 Canadian. Located in Calgary, AB, Canada.

I bought this Electric Motorcycle last year from a former Zero dealership in Calgary. The bike was used as a demo and had a dead battery and next to zero kms on it.

The battery has been replaced (the current battery has almost twice the capacity compared to the original, 66Ah now vs 37Ah original) and the bike is working perfectly.

This is a small electric motorcycle ideal to commute to work.

This Motorcycle is basically new! The original price new is 8000USD.

Details and Specs:

-About 325km total on the odometer. 23hrs of use.
-Speed up to 100kmh
-Range on a single charge (tested) 50-80km depending on speed, wind, weight of rider, etc.
-Onboard 110v 1.3kw charger. Uses a normal 110v plug so you can plug in and charge anywhere. A lot of charging station for electric cars have a 110v plug (L1) on top of the L2/L3 interface.
-Charge from 0% to ~90% in 2.5hrs
-Additional "fuel" gauge for more accurate reading on battery level (the original display is calibrated on the original battery, which had much less juice)
-Currently registered, plated and insured. Can go on the road like any other motorcycle.

Serious inquiries only. No shipping and no paypal.

The reason I am selling this bike is that I have changed job and I am travelling a lot and cannot really use the bike. I would like to see this bike go to someone that can use it and enjoy it as much as I would like to.

Does any one know where I can purchase a replacement or have my 2011 XU battery rebuilt?

Greg

I know someone that has an original pack in good conditions for your Zero. PM me if still interested.

How many of them leaf cells could you fit in the original aluminum battery box?  I've been interested in this, and from the looks of things you made 5 fit (with the other two under the seat).

Five modules in the box but they will not fit in the original one. I had to rebuild the box entirely for the modules to fit. The other two modules are under the seat/above back wheel.

Hi ZNRL,

I left everything original (original BMS and original Charger) on the bike except the battery. I had to re-wire the Nissan Leaf battery cells exactly the same way the original zero battery was wired to the bms, so I suggest taking your time marking all the wiring if you change the battery. I am quite happy with the results as bypassing the internal Zero controller or "brain" would have meant more work to rewire everything, more parts to be added and bought, loosing the original display and some safety features.

I would strongly suggest to consider 18650 (or the new standard 20700 if available) cells for an off road bike as you can easily fit them into the original battery box (no engineering/making external or additional battery boxes). I choose Nissan Leaf cells as I live in Canada and I was lucky to find a supplier that would ship the cells to me at reasonable cost. 18650 cells would have doubled my cost for the same capacity but the job would have been cleaner.

Word is that 18650 cells have a much lower discharge rate limit that could be exceeded on a Zero. Anyone following this advice should look into the matter carefully.

True. When working on a project one should always assemble/engineer according to the requirements for power, torque, capacity, discharge, charge etc... Only a few 18650 cells models will satisfy the specs to withstand the discharge rate of a 2011 zero mx/xu but it's still possible to do. I would have gone that way if I were able to find the right 18650 cells at reasonable price.   I should have clarified better on my previous reply. This bike is not my first build/fix/rebuild.

I didn't really have the time to test the range on the bike as I got extremely busy with work and now winter is here (-25C at the moment). I couldn't even "estimate" the range as the Zero battery indicator must be set on the capacity of the original pack and does not reflect the actual SOC of the Nissan Leaf cells. For example the display would indicate two bars left (20% capacity remaining) after some use but then after turning off and on the bike it would indicate 80% capacity remaining.

I built myself a gauge to see the battery pack voltage (see pic attached) and have a better idea of the actual SOC.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2012 and older / Saddle bags for Zero XU 2011
« on: August 14, 2017, 04:09:16 AM »
Hello,

I was wondering if anyone know where I can buy saddle bags for my 2011 XU? I looked on the Zero website and online and I could not find anything.

Here is the picture from the Zero website that shows the bags on the bike:

Thank you.

Hi Digudi,

I am in Canada as well. Where are you located? I am not sure a Zero dealer will be able to help. They don't have these batteries anymore and from what I hear they don't know/want to deal with old bikes/batteries.

It would be better to find a local person that knows ebikes/lithium batteries. You might want to check the endless sphere forum on the web and Facebook.
