I do not agree with that. I think that the issue with Zero is that the drivetrain is nice/good-enough, but all the rest (design, missing full-fairing, suspension hardware, instruments) is sub-par surely given the price of the current lineup.
Do not think that experienced riders are offended by the lack of a clutch or noise, but more about the issues mentioned above.

I have never really understood why there is not a full fairing option on the SR. Seems like a no-brainer to extend the range on the highway. It would give the SR an upgrade (also aesthetically) that does not require new or upgraded tech.

Hey guys,

Slightly off topic, but while enjoying some time off yesterday I found this project looked soo promising:

This basically answers all the topics on my zero wish list:
- range
- fairing
- high-tech brakes, etc
- high-tech dash
- storage capacity
- etc.
all for a very decent price.
The project has been abandoned due to the fact that they could not find enough backers/capital to make it work - but do you agree that this looked promising? Should Zero try to build something like this?

so what happens in your mind if i pin the throttle with that lever in? what if I leave it pinned and release the lever?

I'd have it do nothing to the throttle so it doesn't interfere with "lift and coast" vs. braking with regen. Maybe the level should be shaped more like a paddle so it isn't mistaken for a clutch.

Why not make the throttle go the other way and apply regen more as you increase the "counter throttle"? Isn't that more natural?

My input:
* Full sexy fairing
* More range (above will help)
* Improved front brakes
* Fully adjustable suspension
* Traction control
* Color display that you can customise
* Regen breaking on throttle close (like in a Tesla)
* More power or a different (customisable via app??) way of limiting the power so that you can properly pull a wheelie on a SR
* Optional low drag luggage option (top case and/or side cases) that fit well into the design of the bike
I am sure that with all the above, Zero can really significantly increase sales and strengthen it's position as a leading electric motorcycle company!

One of the reasons for me not to purchase a Zero was the lack of braking power from the simple single disc system that the Zero SR comes with. If you are used to a high-end brake setup (like on my K1300s), you really need to re-calibrate when you start riding the SR.
At the price point that the SR sells at - it should at least have really solid brakes. At least: that is my opinion.
Am waiting and hoping that at one point Zero agrees and comes with a major upgrade of the bike that includes dual disk/high-end brakes. That, a full fairing and a little more range (+80-100 km) would probably make me purchase one.

Zero is still a small company.  They have a hand full of people in each department.  Want a full fairing... Make one.  Suspension and brakes are great.  Get the suspension adjusted and adapted by a specialist(should do this with any bike).  Swap out the pads and the brakes are great!  Traction control is going to drive the cost unreasonable up and takes development time.  Led lights push the price with little to no gain in range.  Like really, just do the math!   

Waiting for a major manufacturer will take years and people like you didn't build a brand like Harley or the others.  I'm sorry that the experience alone didn't sell you on the bike but to each their own.

I love my 2016 DSR.  You couldn't pay me to ride any of the museum pieces on the road.  In my humble opinion, Zero has it refined to a degree that leaves others in the dust.  But someone needs to support these other start ups and that is important.  Safe travels.

For around 21k EUR (in Europe with Charge Tank option that I would need for commuting) it's just not a competitive offer. Even though I really liked the electric drivetrain. Am convinced that this is the future for motorcycles, but it's simply too expensive at this moment.
I understand that Zero needs to make choices, but if LED lights are so cheap - that is a really quick win then right? Reading the stories on this forum it seems that adding a proper fairing increases milage significantly. That also sounds like a low-tech quick win to me.
But I am probably over simplifying things and I agree that Zero deserves a lot of credit for what they are achieving.
Just have to wait some more then...

Have to say that I am disappointed with this year's upgrade. After test driving two electric motorcycles, I am interested in replacing my ICE bike with something like a Zero - but this model upgrade will not convince me to switch :(
Why is there no full fairing, no suspension/braking system upgrade, traction control, LED lights?
Will wait for another year - or maybe a typical major motorcycle brand (Honda, Yamaha) will enter this market soon? Or maybe Energetica or Alta will announce something that will tick my boxes.

I think that would be a low-tech way of increasing milage and comfort. Upgrade the suspension as well (decent breaks) and I might just consider buying it...

You obviously know your physics! Very well stated and this fully explains why I was not blown away by the Zero SR performance.
The thing is that the Zero makes accelerating so effortless that you are probably quicker than most ICE bikes in normal circumstances. But put a Zero SR next to an R1 (or similar) with an experienced rider and the R1 will definitely beat the Zero.

But would you all agree that it's a shame that the power of the engine is managed in such a way so that it's not using all of it's potential performance?
I mean: if they would not limit the power so much, the bike would even be more fun in sport mode. Traction control would kick in when you need it, but if you don't you could have an amazing acceleration from stand still!

I have taken the Zero SR on a test drive, and was actually stunned that you do not get any "modern" driving aids besides ABS for the price you have to pay for the bike. You would expect that at least traction control would be relatively easy to add since the whole bike is electrical to begin with.
I feel that they have smoothened out the throttle response, in order to keep things easy to control and avoid a lot of accidents. This is probably one of the reasons why the bike won't wheelie (or at least not using the throttle alone).
The absence of modern driving aids was one of the reasons why I did not purchase the bike. Another was the limited range (at least once a week I need about 120 miles of highway range for commuting) and proper brakes with real stopping power.

Would it be so hard for Zero to add traction control?
One would think this is easier on an electric motorcycle than on a classic ICE bike (ride-by-wire is "enabled" by default and all the ABS wheel speed hardware is already installed as well).

I am pretty experienced with the classic ICE mechanics, but really new to the electric "engineering"...
Am confused about the charge tank compatibility with the charging stations you find near the highways and in public parkings, etc.
Can you expect a standard "plug" that you stick into the Zero charge tank?
Suppose you install the Zero charge tank, can you then quick charge it at any charging station that is available?
