I live in San Diego and own a 2016 S 6.5.  I couldn't make it through the entire interview because I saw it going off the rails (no pun intended).   Two points:

We can argue about the usefulness of this and many other CA laws but its not relevant to a motorcycle review.  But the law -is- clear.   I didn't have a motorcycle endorsement on my CA drivers license so I went through a third party training program that ate up about 16 hours of my time.  I actually found it kind of fun (if you enjoy 16 hours of sarcasm by the instructor).  I then walked into the CA DMV and had the endorsement in about 15 minutes.  And yes you can get through a CA DMV in no time if you actually plan ahead).

My commute is 23.5 miles garage to garage all highways speeds.  If I go 75 MPH (1 mile lower than where the highway patrols will start picking you off on HW15) I show up at the office with 51% on the battery.  I've managed to do this exactly once on a sunday morning.  But as highway speeds vary due to traffic I usually show up at the office around 60% to 65% on the battery (going between 30 and 80MPH).  I've exceeded the Zero speced "city" mileage of 81 miles a couple of times on one charge so I actually think their specs are on the low side. 

Lastly ... I'm not a guy who goes on long motorcycle weekend trips (I actually spend most of my time on a peddle bike in my spare time) so that already makes me not your standard motorcycle owner.  I bought the bike for one purpose.  To commute to work and it fits the need perfectly.

As a side note my plan was to buy a new car a couple of months ago but as the bike as proven so reliable i've keep delaying the purchase. 

Yes - its been broken since the first beta.  I considered telling them but as the app is basically useless and getting the iOS beta is cheap and easy so I basically thought they didn't care and I didn't consider it a high priority item.  Personally I wish they just document the API and allow others to write apps to their bike. 

Its actually the windshield that I regret not getting.  But that's just due to the difference in riding on highways between SoCal and my home state of Minnesota.  I ended up adding a windshield which makes getting to work more bearable. 

How about no mirrors?

While thats a concept - Skuily is actually shipping a helmet that does something similar.  I have an order in for one.

If you bought an Apple II when they first came out, you would have spent thousands of dollars.
You would have upgraded to improved computers along the way and years of enjoyment / productivity.
Or, you could have waited for the " Perfect " computer, and still be waiting. Might be a bit late now,
but, if you didn't ask dealer to contact Zero about some other sort of compensation ( parts, service, accessories )
maybe something could be worked out.

The analogy doesn't hold up.  The reason its used in tech is because tech changes so rapidly that its pointless to wait for the 'next big thing' as the 'next big thing' is a few months away.  It has nothing to do with the cost or discounting. 

I lucked out on my order (the dealer was unaware of it until -after- I bought my bike) but if I knew it was coming I may of jumped to the SR instead of the S. 

Since I've moved a half dozen times since i owned my last motorcycle - I have long donated or simply thrown out all my motorcycle specific tools and parts.  So I'm looking to stock up again. 

I'm curious what you keep on hand and/or take with you on the road?
