Oh, no, I'm not convinced there's air in the brakes like I said :)  I just want to find out what element to adjust to make the light come on sooner.  Or were you trying to say this element cannot be adjusted at all?

Thanks for helping so far.

Ah ok thanks so you can just unwind the banjo bolt slightly or something?  I'm not convinced the brakes need a bleed.  The bike is practically new out of the factory and I've rode it a few times, brakes feel responsive and fine.  I took the metal plate that guards the master cylinder off the bike to get to the cylinder so I can see the banjo bolt you refer to.  I'll dig around and see if I can also find some J-Juan nomenclature before I go fiddling with anything.

The bike is new.  The first thing I did was lower the height of the brake pedal to suit my comfort.  Unfortunately, the point by which regen and brake light actuates is too late.  It's beyond the biting point of the pedal for sure.  The brake light comes on when the pedal is depressed around 40-50% of its full travel; so basically it's possible to brake in a gentle-moderate fashion without the light coming on.

The unofficial Zero manual online said something about adjusting a set screw in the lever somewhere that allows you to fine-tune the amount of brake pressure/lever travel required before the light (and regen) become active, but I can't for the life of me figure out where I'm supposed to be looking.

Is anyone here able to help, please?

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Re: Headlight switch extend range?
« on: February 03, 2017, 09:26:28 AM »
As much as I'd like LED headlights because I think they're more visible and provide superior beam pattern/strength, let's be realistic.  Your Zero headlight could run for almost 6 days straight before the battery ran out.  Heck, the bulb would probably die before then!  Halogen does have its advantages though;  it's arguably better in winter as it helps keep the headlight housing clear and frost-free.

Regardless of whether you run LED or Incandescent, turning off the lights completely is NOT something I recommend;  there is a noticeable improvement in visibility by having lights on during the day, and as bikers we need to be seen as easily as possible!

Tech Help / Replacement Mirror Glass Zero FXS
« on: December 28, 2016, 10:41:11 PM »
Does anyone in the UK know where you're supposed to go if you want replacement glass but NOT a whole new stalk/assembly?  Just the glass?  It's the left mirror on my new Zero FXS.  I think one of my family members elbowed it hard enough to crack by accident.

If people need pics of the mirrors (may be able to identify the brand at a glance?  I dunno) then I am happy to go take some.

I can't see why.  The only times in memory we've had surges of power, the house' circuit breaker has tripped and protected everything.

Can anyone tell me if the thicker drive belt on the 2017 model is worth paying more for - or waiting for - over a 2016 bike which can be had cheaper - and sooner?  Are there any problems with belts snapping or failing on the 2016 FXS that specifically mean one SHOULD hold off buying until the 2017 model is available locally?

Yeah it's too late now.  Zero is only interested in applying the 2017 range for the subsidy.  For those of you on the hook to get a Zero, it looks like the 2017 range will be your opportunity.

In other, unrelated news, I don't even have an A2 license.  Lol.  I'm going to be taking my modules 1 and 2 ON the Zero, possibly making me the first person in the country to pass their motorbike test on an electric motorcycle.  Should be interesting.

So all they do is knock the VAT off?  Hasn't Norway been doing this to all their EVs for years now?  And what takes the piss is this news came in literally a week after I ordered my FXS from SoManyBikes in Oldham

You might notice that whilst there is some more information, there's not much detail, caveats like "up to 20â„…" and no dates. Still encouraging though.

It's finally here:  https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/plug-in-motorcycle-grant-eligibility  from the lion's mouth

Still no word on the amount, but pretty sure I read somewhere that it's 20% of the value of the bike up to a maximum of 1,500

You'll find the information at this link:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/plug-in-motorcycle-grant-eligibility

This literally came out just today!  I guess you could call it breaking news for our UK viewers!  As far as I'm aware it's 1,500 GBP or otherwise 20% of the bike's value.  There may be some delay until we can still take advantage of this grant as individual manufacturers have to apply to have their vehicles listed as eligible, and meet a set criteria.

Yeah, it does seem the OLEV is hindered by far too much red tape to do their jobs properly.  As for charging infrastructure, well, soon as we got our i3, we had to sign up for 3-4 different charging networks.  Now got a handful of charging cards for different services.  It is very daft.  I mean, it seems to me the big war is between CCS and Chademo.  We NEED some kind of standardisation, preferably CCS.  We also need a SINGLE card/scheme that works, by law, on all charging points across the country.

By the way, if anyone's in the market for an FXS, Streetbike have an ex-demonstrator FXS going for about 8 grand, and a DSR for just under 11.5 grand.  If you're waiting for the grant, you're taking a gamble.  If the grant doesn't come in, and Zero pull out, chances are you're going to be paying considerably more than 8 grand in the long run.

I would personally wait.  For all we know Zero could be keeping just as keen an eye on the situation as we are.  If they still believe something may yet happen, then  they probably aren't going anywhere.  For all I know they could be selling just fine.  Not only that, but I'm waiting for a look at the 2017 MR.  If the '17 bikes come with stability control, I'm definitely going to wait.  Considering we can get weeks of constant rain I REALLY can't wait for Zero to introduce MSC.

Hi all,

Strange you have been waiting a long time to hear back from OLEV.  I've had two correspondences with them, one with Tim, another with John.  Before I even knew this forum existed, I had emailed John, so when I saw this forum I knew they must be getting bugged by a lot of people about this.  Strange how politics moves at such a glacial pace...

21st Mar 2016:

"Dear Will

Thanks for your email. The quick answer is that no this has not been abandoned, we are still waiting for approval from Ministers before making an announcement. I appreciate the uncertainty and frustration that this prolonged delay is causing. As my colleague Tim Ward said, you can keep up to date with any announcements by following our Twitter account: @OLEVgovuk or by visiting our website at www.gov.uk/olev

Your sincerely,

John"

I agree with others here; may be simpler to just buy the damn bike now rather than hold our breath for this thing to come in.  But that's the least of my worries; I fear if they don't bring a grant in, there's a risk zero pulls out of the UK again?
