Electric Motorcycle Forum is live!
I'm in the same boat. I could understand and deal with delays if there was good communication from zero to the customers or at least to the dealers. I think my dealer is just saying hopefully "insert week" because he had not heard anything from Zero. To add insult to injury is the emails saying they are "coming off the line" or "shipping". This is not giving me a good first experience with zeroSo if I didn't know I would think Zero reads these forums, I would wonder. I write complaining about no communication from Zero and 2 hours later I get an email from them congratulating me on my purchase, saying my bike will go into production "in the next few weeks", promising me to keep me informed on the progress and offering a tee shirt. Now I know we all got this email who preordered but I have to take back my complaint and give credit where it is due. Now of course i would have rather it been a email from my dealer saying my bike shipped but I have to give credit to Zero for finally communicating with the customer. I really hope this continues.
I'm trying to figure out how practical that really is. How functional is either a bike that can go 120 miles but takes a long time to recharge, versus a bike that goes 100 miles but can recharge in an hour, but only at specific locations. Any insights?
This question came up in a different thread. Folks are saying that most Level2 stations can't provide more than 6kW of power. I have no way to verify, but that would mean it wouldn't charge in 1 hour at such stations. When it comes to home charging, you can setup the hardware that will ensure that charge rate, not a huge issue.
I'll start getting excited once the bike actually lands on showrooms, in owners hands and a few people have reliable reviews of a bike that works without trouble over decent mileage and time. I know Zero has spent lots of time learning from mistakes over the years to come up with the reasonably reliable bikes they now sell, and I think Lightning will go through the same. As far as we know, Lightning hasn't sold a single bike. I'm not expecting this bike to be all what it's hyped up to be once it lands in owner's hands.. especially at that price... but I guess we'll see.
The claimed leaked specs are very impressive to me, but it would still be a very hard sell to me over a zero. Lighting has no dealer network as i can tell in america, and no community of owners that i can find. Even i they produce this bike it would be really tough for me to take it over a brand that has established itself like zero with actual dealers.
A big thing for me is the dc charging. I don't buy Zero reasoning for leaving off the sr/f. It's the future and harley, energica and Lightning all understand that.
Im looking forward to Thursday's launch date.
I'm waiting with bated breath for the launch of the new Lighting Strike. It's supposed to debut sometime this month. I have no intention of replacing my 2017 DSR (I love that bike). I'm just curious to see how it will stack up to the SR/F.What I would probably be very interested in seeing is if they announce a nationwide dealer network. I'm not really that hopeful being they state Free Shipping. A $15K +/- mail order bike is not for me. What would you do for service, ship it back to factory? Normal service stations can't service these bikes. They need to get dealers to carry and service them. Then they have a chance.
Deposit down. Premium red for the boost in charging speed mainly. This will be my first bike. Interesting how I ended up here. Decided I wanted a bike, then checked out what was going on with electrics and heard Zero was launching a new model soon. So I held out for a few months. Loved everything about the SR/F. Especially the inclusion of the Bosch MSC. Seems like a good bike that I can dial down while I learn and then open as I get more comfortable.
