Jon, is that the Wilber’s 640? I’m thinking about the replacement and couldn’t find much of a written review. Apart from the taller ride height, what else do you think about it? Is the rebound adjustments enough?

Shadow, I’m in Australia and our highway speed limits are 60mph so its funny that modes for an American bike is better suited for here.

I agree with your idea of having self configurable sports modes but why not eco modes too. That way you won’t have a mode accidentally on which will restrict your speed there on highways.

Hi all,

As an update to the custom mode saving changes, it now works and has been for a few months now.

I just had to update the bike firmware, update the app and reset the Bluetooth connection but the step that fixed the issue was updating the firmware.

I have a 2014 S and can post software versions if it helps anyone.

Now just to have the SoC calculation fixed.

« on: March 08, 2018, 02:40:14 PM »
Hi Worksoptony, I had a throttle issue on my 2014 S. When checking the resistance with a multimeter, it should read 0 kohm at no throttle and when turning the throttle, work its way up to 5kohms. Mine was missing some values so it only had values from 0,2-3.2, 4-4.1. This meant that I had missing throttle values of 0-2, 3.2-4.1, and 4.1-5. So no throttle regen as that must occur between 0-2 kohms and no full power as 4.1-5 was missing. A thottle replacement fixed this. I’ve tried the Domino replacement just for a change and good for about a year so far.

Hey all, any news about a software update to correct this issue?

Nigezero, my app also says 253,000km to empty as well on a 2014 Zero S (no power tank). This is the last small issue to fix before my Zero is perfect!

If anyone reads this from Zero, please update the app/firmware.

I checked the drive belt tension as set by the factory.  It measured 70 kg.  Zero's recommended tension range is 25 kg to 76.5 kg

Hi Richard, congrats on your new Zero and your lucky daughter too!

I just checked my 2014 manual and section 5.15 shows belt tension should be between 20kg and 30kg.

Is the range you mentioned for the wider belt on the 2018?

Richard, I don’t know who’s luckier, you or your daughter but I do know that the riding these things become quite an addiction!

Just a ‘me-too’ post but as an iPhone user, I borrowed a friends android phone, side loaded the Zero app (V1.2.8) from this forum and was able to make changes to custom settings and them save to the bike (Zero S ‘14).

I’ve also contacted zero with the recommendations from this forum. Ie. Release this previous version in the App Store as: ‘Zero - 2014’ or ‘Zero - Compatibility’ so that some of us can make changes. Or they could update the new app to work on our bikes again.

Either way, there is a current work around and all you need to do is plead to a friend to borrow their phone!

Richard, that description is exactly what prompted me to replace the onboard charger. It started being an overnight charge left the SoC in the morning at 98% and over a few weeks, the SoC reduced to 95%, 92% and then finally 90%. If you unplugged and plugged back in, it would often get to 100% or if you left it for a day or so, the second charge would start to bring it to 100% but eventually it was taking 3 plug ins to get to 100% or more than 3-4 days to initiate all the charges to get to 100%. I contacted Zero and even though out of warranty, they were kind enough to replace the charger at no cost. Zero support have been fantastic and even though my motor has been replaced twice and onboard charger once, their communication is always precise and in a reasonable time frame. I think you should contact them before it develops further.

I'm at 30,000 miles (48,000km) on my '14 S and I just replaced the charger. Wasn't very difficult but will be looking to use dielectric grease on all connectors before riding it again.
Never checked my previous chargers temperature before failure so not sure what higher than usual heat feels like.

I have also installed all the parts on my bike and attached photos below.

In terms of price, it is slightly cheaper to buy from AF1 racing but their service is worth more than the savings from buying locally (from this one purchasing experience anyway).

The total list of parts installed since the bike has been off the road:

- New motor under warranty as the previous one showed signs of internal bearing failure.
- New onboard 1.3kW charger as the last was not charging the battery to 100% (usually 91% SoC)
- Tail tidy
- Givi factory top box (also noticed that the rack has the usual seat bolt mounts, under seat bolts AND a metal frame with rubber boot that sits on the tail plastic! I can send photos if anyone is curious)
- a double fast charger (6.8 kW) from EVtricity which I havn't used as my go to electrician is soaking up the sun in the northern state of Queensland. Lucky bugger :)
Also will not mount the charger to the bike as this will void the warranty so it will stay at home except when I'm touring in summer and it will live in the top box.

Last thing is a good cleaning and I'll have to plan the next upgrades!

Before tail tidy and top box:

After tail tidy and top box rack:

After clipping in top box:

And finally getting back to the reason for my post:

I have installed the belt! And have a spare for the next 40,000km (85,000km on the odometer or odomile for the americans ;)

Finally made some time for an update.

I emailed AF1 a few questions about delivery times, if they can have Zero deliver directly and some other questions and the blokes at AF1 were fantastic to deal with. They kept me up to date when parts were received by them and when the parts were shipped to me.

All up it took 33 days from ordering to the package being delivered:
- 19 days from ordering,AF1 receiving parts from Zero and then shipping to Australia)
- 14 days shipping from US to Australia.

I may have a similar issue. 2014 S 11.4 Initially, power loss occured at 10% and then after a few months, gradually power loss started to occur at 13%, 15% and 20%. I'm about to start diagnosing it with the Zero techs. They are actually very helpful but may be overworked as I'm sure the company is growing. This all has occured before the recent firmware update though. The only thing I lost with the firmware update was the ability to change custom ride settings as experienced by many with a 2014 S and the recent firmware. Hope your friend gets it sorted quickly.

Togo, that's really good news for android owners but if you have an iPhone, rolling back versions is very difficult.

Anyone have a fix for the apple fan boys? (Myself included)

I also recently hit this roadblock.

Just had my firmware/software updated to the latest versions (will post version # once I can) and can change the custom settings but bike will not save them. I have app version 1.3.0 (4) and because I'm using an iPhone, can not install an earlier version of the Zero app.

Hope this gets fixed in an update soon.
