Actually, there are other issues with my bike.

Yesterday it just died. No sign of life at all and I had to push the bike back home. The dealer came and replaced one of the fuses under the seat.
Everything seemed ok at first, but this morning I noticed that fuse in my garage had blown and the Zero charger was the reason.

I was able to drive the bike, but headlights, brake lights etc was dead.
The dealer suspects that the dc-dc converter has been malfunctioning causing the headlight bulb to overheat...

The bike will be brought to the dealer and checked thoroughly.

Frode,

Did you happen to have your jacket over the headlight while the bike was turned on? I was charging once, had my jacket draped over the headlight while the bike was turned on. Melted the headlight and the zipper on the jacket.

No, I have never had my jacket hanging over the headlight. :)
However, since my bike is stored outside I put a cover on every time I park at home. This has never been a problem with other bikes though... :)
Does the glass really get that soft while riding?

Hi.

While washing and preparing my 2015 SR for winter storage I noticed something strange. The headlight (plastic) glass was melted with two dents and lots of air bubbles.
Photo is attached.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does the bulb get so hot and the "glass" so soft that the wind can cause this? :)

Hello.

I haven't received my bike (2015 SR) yet, but the dealer sent med the VIN: 538SM7Z3xFCGxxxxx (removed control digit and serial number :) )

According to the manual the M7 part means "15 MY S/SR/SP (9.4)" and M8 means "15 MY S/SR/SP (12.5)".

Has anyone else noticed this error in their VIN?

No I didn't export the list and I haven't built my own yet but I did build my own connector for the bike to go from the controller to a Anderson connector so I am familiar with the parts.
....
I used 10AWG Silicon Wire and it never gets hot.
dd to this if you make your own for reference later. ... That reminds me, I need to order more silicon wire.

My only concern is to solder instead of crimping. Did you crimp or solder the 8AWG connecter pin?

BTW: Where do people buy the silicon wires in shorter lengths? mouser, farnell and digikey seem to only sell spools.
Both hobbyking and dealextreme sell 8AWG silicon wire, but only in 50 and 100cm lengths.

How much does it cost to build this Y adapter? Is the actual component cost anything near the $249.99 they charge for it? :)

That's nice. In Holland we get incentives when you own a company. I am self employed and get a 64% of the ex. VAT price as tax deductable. A business pruchase is always VAT free. That means that I have an extra tax deduction of about 10.000 euros from my income. And we don't need to pay road tax.
So the nett payment for this new bike, incl. accesoires and chargers is about 3-4000 euros compared to a non-business purchase.
That is nice. In Norway it does not matter if it is a company vehicle or not.
And I think I would have to pay roughly $4500 (US) more for a "similar" ICE bike.

Do you get the tax incentives for electric motorcycles, too, In Norway?
Yes, that's right. No VAT, no import tax and we only pay 25% of annual motor vehicle tax. :D

I was planning on buying the S 9.5, so I was trying to convince myself that a battery upgrade would be possible (and easy) :)
However, an SR is on its way to me now :D

So the I2c part is really easy. 5v converter, microcontroller, lcd and  Enclosure.
Do you use pin 10 (signal return) as ground reference for your 5v voltage regulator and microcontroller board?

You're correct. You can't use both I2C together or you would have to have an isolated I2C to I2C converter.

I just used the I2C information from one PSU. The current is exactly the same between the 2 PSU's as they are in series. The temperature is from the PSU the I2C is connected to. The voltage is measured by a voltage divider connected to an analog input on the atmel microcontroller. also read from the I2C bus. This way i can show temperature, current and total voltage (multiply the I2C value by 2) and calculate and show power to the Battery .

The power for the microcontroller comes from the 12V 0.25A auxiliary (isolated) supply the PSU generates. Be sure to use a 12 to 5 volt converter as the maximum voltage for the microcontroller is 5.5 Volts.

The wire gauge for the output wire is 10mm2 I believe, i'm not really sure as it was a piece of super flexible Car audio amplifier wire I had lying around. The wire gauge for the input cable is 2.5mm2 which is standard for a 16A 230V supply we have here.
You could do with less than 10mm2 on the output wiring but don't go below about 4mm2 as both the voltage drop over the wire would become greater than the sense-lines can compensate for and the PSU charges less than it can. Also anything less than 2.5mm2 can fry your wire if charging with 22A !

In the mean time i switched from the standard 230V 16A connector to a Mennekes type 2 connector to be able to charge from a charging point here in Holland. This is a three phase connection which allowed me to wire each PSU to one phase and connect the internal charger to the remaining phase. This distributes the current much better than using all three on a single phase.

As described above the total of 2 PSU's plus the internal charger asks about 4000 watt from the charging station and connecting it all to a single phase can lead to tripping of the breaker. Wiring it all to a separate phase prevents tripping the breaker.
Thank you for explaining this! I have a lot of experience in micro-controller dev and PCB-design, but not with voltage levels above 24V :)

Since manual says that the i2c bus should not be shared between two of these PSUs in series.

Bringing back a dead thread...
Attached is the basic schematic.
Both PSU's are set to 57 Volt and the senses lines make sure it's 114 Volts at the anderson connector.

These PSU also have I2C output, so i used that to add a 2x16 character LCD connected to an Atmel AVR microcontroller showing the output current and the output voltage, calculates the output power and also shows the chargers temperature. (all from the I2C interface)
Great work!! But I have few questions since I am really interested in doing the same :D

The manual states this: "The I2C bus address lines, serial clock and data are referenced to the -Sense potential. When using series connection of FPS1000 units, do not connect the I2C  linesof the units together."
How did you wire this? Do you use two separate i2c-interfaces on the microcontroller?
What wire gauge did you use on the output and input cables?

Since the FX is able to automatically detect a second battery pack. Why can't a SR/DS/S automatically detect if a Power Tank is installed or not? Or a 4th monolith in the case of 9.5 DS/S?
I know this can be limited by the firmware (and probably is). Why? To make sure that you pay your local shop for the installation? ;)
