I ended up going with the newer version that includes the sin/cos sensor. Better safe than sorry I guess! Is it common practice to waterproof your motor specifically in order to protect the sensors and jazz?

I was reading "How to build your own electric vehicle" by Seth Leitman in which he includes some math about how to go about finding out the horsepower and such needed according to your performance needs, weight, air resistance, etc. I wrote up these equations (and a few of my own) in an Open Office spreadsheet. Hope this helps someone! Let me know if you have questions, spot errors, or have any improvements I might be able to make.

The ceremonial first post!

I was researching some Motenergy motors and found 2 (ME1114 and ME1012) that are the same size and that I think will suffice for what I'm working on. The only difference I've been able to find is that the ME1114 are newer and have a sin/cos sensor in them rather than the hall sensors that the ME1012 has. Apparently having a sin/cos sensor allows for better rotor positioning and smoother acceleration at low speeds (or so i'm told), however the cheapest ME1114 I could find was still $200-300 more expensive than it's otherwise identical brother. Thoughts? Is it worth it to fork out the extra cash for that sensor configuration? What am I missing?
