To increase the voltage by much, they'd have to switch from MOSFETs to IGBTs in the controller, with the efficiency loss that goes along with that. I'd be surprised to see that happen.

Tech Help / Re: Awesome Motor! What do?
« on: December 09, 2016, 01:08:07 AM »
That depends on your application. That motor can run at a variety of powers up to 50kw, so let's pick some numbers to make a simple example. If you want to average 24kw for an hour you will use 24kwh (kilowatt hours). The batteries you mention are 3.2v and 15ah. 3.2v * 15ah = 48wh, so ~500 of them will get you 24kwh. The motor's only about 90% efficient, and you don't want to run the batteries from 100% to 0%, so add some margin for that.

This forum doesn't have a large number of DIY builders, so this kind of technical question may get better responses at endless-sphere.com. A lot of very experienced ebike and motorcycle builders hang out there (including a few that have used the AC20). Just lurking and reading a pile of threads there would probably be useful to you. You may well find that you don't need 24kwh of batteries to achieve your goals :)

Just received a promo email about this. They're marketing the $1000 / $650 discount as Free "Fuel" for Life.

Pics and Vids / Re: Petrol versus battery power comparison

I've been using an Ego cordless mower for the last couple of years, and it's been great. It comes with a 224wh battery and a 2C charger, so since I also have their leaf blower, which also comes with a (half size) battery, I can swap back and forth and keep the tools running pretty continuously. That's been really handy when it comes time to clean up the leaves in autumn. Wish they'd do a snowblower though...

I'm also in that position MostlyBonkers. Came pretty close to buying an fx this spring, but I'd been dreaming of a street triple for too many years, so I bought that instead. And it's a really great bike. And I love it. And yet, I spend way more time reading this forum than triumphrat...

So that's not going to change "in a few months", is it? Or did I miss something?

Pie in the sky, but I still wish Honda would put the beautiful RC-E into production. Or show any signs that they even remember they built it. https://evmc2.wordpress.com/2013/10/25/the-electric-garage-honda-electric-supersports-rce/

I think Energica have a dealer in Canada now too, though I don't know their availability yet and, like Lito Sora, they're twice the price of a Zero.

The pic shows up for me, but it took a few minutes to load. I guess it's pretty big...

Don't store below freezing? So I have to build a heated garage before I can buy a Zero? Or will it heat the batteries if left plugged in?

Mission Motors / Re: Did you get your R or RS?
« on: September 09, 2014, 11:05:28 PM »
Isn't this what the other, earlier Mission Motors did? Build a prototype bike, then switch to selling drivetrains? IIRC, this newer Mission Motorcycles split off from the other company because they wanted to sell bikes, but now they're also switching to selling drivetrains... Who's buying all these drivetrains?
