OK, an oooold post.  I own a 2014 ZERO S.  Internal charger shorted out.  Use the external quick charger.  Need to get this fixed so I can sell the Nike.  Am trying to secure financing on a RYVID ANTHEM for this Summer.

I ride year round, even in snow storms :/



I found my issue to be related to the controller temperature. I created a shroud for the controller out of simple sheet metal, painted it black, and never looked back. It kept the temps on par with the motor and I didn't get any cutting out or odd behavior after that.

I still need to fabricate something to keep water out of the 35 pin connector though as I suspect that is what is causing other issues in serious downpours.

I was getting 68 miles per charge at 60-65 mph on a 2013 SR 11.4 (10.58 nominal) and I wasn't charging at work at the time. It was still enough to get to work, 27 miles away, and get home with 18% to spare.

Soon the bike will be streamlined for winter

DIELECTRIC GREASE !!  When I asked ZERO tech support about d-grease they gave me only silence.  My issues are with a defective ( from Day One ) dashboard, defective BMS and range that is mediocre at best. 

I live in the  "cow and corny" Midwest ( Iowa ) and it is VERY difficult to find CHAdeMO ( http://www.chademo.com/ ) or SAE J1772 L2/L3 ( http://standards.sae.org/j1772_201210/ ) CPs around.  My local coffee house lets me plug in to their outdoors 110 vAC 20S outlet when I stop for some brew and a doughnut.  Charge time is still prohibitively long.  Sure wish someone would have a top case / box that incorporates a ruggedized and weatherproof QUICK CHARGER into it.

Inductive pick-ups for electrical transfer built into major highways would also help e-biking !

BRAMMO  and  ZERO ( Agility SAietta ? ).  With two or three e-bikes in the market arena, the operant word is COMPETITION !  If there are choices for the end user, this will force the manufacturers to use their R&D and Engineering departments to produce products better ( and cheaper ) than the competition.  This is a WIN - WIN situation for those of us who ride e-bikes.

Does anybody have any experience with ZEV quasi-e-scooters ? 


OK, they look like scooters, but if you look at their specs they compare favorably with ZERO  and  BRAMMO BIKES.

For those who want highway "boats", there is always the HARLEY-STYLE e-bikes from BRUTUS

Has anyone ridden ( or even seen for that matter ) one of these?

How long will it be before we have a universal battery system so a "fueling station" would just swap out batteries instead of recharging them.  How 'bout inductive pick-ups to provide bike power on INTERSTATES ( sort of like the DRAYSON B12/69 recharges ) to cut down on "refueling" stops ?

My personal e-bike e-DREAM ---> a battery system that allows me to go 500 miles at 70 mph between charges, and that recharges from 220 vDC in less than two hours.  Oh yeah, the bike with my Dream Battery would be hyper-reliable, hyper low maintenance, and cost less than $8000.00

Desert Riding Foam Grips.  GREAT IDEA !  I'll look into these3 and post  my eval.
