I make it about 0.5mm difference in diameter, so as my dealer is also an engineering firm im hoping they can help me out by skimming some plastic out of the tubes or turning down the bar. I am guessing this is because America is still living in the past and refusing to use a sensible system for their units of measurement?
Did you use any lube? I've had success in the past with a bit of dish soap mixed in water, then once it dries you're all set. For obvious reasons, the fit should be pretty tight.

I picked up my 2012 XU from them last month. There were two warranty issues
which were taken care of. ( Front Forks and Turn Signal Flasher ). I have put
about 1000 miles on it with no problems.
That's the one I'm talking about

Thanks for the replies. The warranty shouldn't be an issue since the bike is still "new" at a dealer. This would be easier if it wasn't 500 miles away... still, with the tax break it would make for a pretty good deal.

While I want to join the e-bike crowd, I do my best to avoid buying new vehicles because the depreciation is just too severe. One alternative to that might be going with a leftover 2012. For instance, I've come across a 2012 DS6 demo with ~1000 miles, that the dealer is selling for $7k. That's much more in the range of what I'd like to spend.
However I've been reading about all the "glitch" problems with that year, so I'm wondering if any 2012 is just too high risk right now? I can just as easily keep riding my BMW until some used 2013's start hitting the market, which should start happening in the near future, as I know many people turn their bikes over pretty quickly.
And will the local dealers gripe if I bring in a bike for warranty work that was not purchased from them?

If I couldn't lane split, I probably wouldn't be riding. Even with my short commute, it shaves off a lot of time.
I would, however, like to be on a smaller bike when I'm splitting. Something like a Zero, perhaps

« on: July 08, 2013, 11:59:09 PM »As previously posted, no ABS has been the deal-breaker for me. I am starting to let that go, as the ONLY automatic bike options with ABS are Honda NC series and Aprilia Mana. I just don't connect with any of them like I do with Vespa and ZERO.

There are other choices with ABS: Burgman 400A/650A, Honda Reflex and/or Silverwing, Yamaha FJR-AE (
), probably more... since you're looking at Vespa I presume you're mainly interested other scooters... Since I only use my bike for commuting, I would really like to see ABS. As to the price premium, it just depends on how important it is to have an e-bike. Unless you cover tons of miles and charge mostly away home, you'll never recover that price difference.

I have never had ABS on a bike, but on my truck it does not help much. When it goes off, if it prevented me from sliding sideways then maybe it did help. You don't know what would have happened without it though, except for the fact that the last truck I had did not have ABS and I never lost control. Downhill in snow if I keep the brakes applied, the ABS will not stop me fast enough. When they come on, I have to pump the brakes to get ABS to stop working and let me ontrol the stop. I used to travel a steep downhill corner that I would have blown through if I let ABS do the work. Did it prevent me from slipping sideways when I first hit the brakes? I'll never know.
ABS is not designed to work in snow, dirt, gravel or other off-road situations, and as you pointed out it can be a real hindrance there. Most dual-sport motorcycles have switchable ABS just for this scenario.
On a car or bike on "normal" roads, however, it will save your bacon. In an emergency situation most people just slam on (or grab) the brakes and hope, and ABS lets you slow down in a controlled manner, even retaining the ability to steer if needed.
Lots of people feel they're "better" than ABS, and it may be true under controlled situations. However, out in the real world, if I have to stop quickly for whatever reason, I sure hope the guy behind me has it

If it was just about saving money, I could ride my bicycle to work everyday and come out way ahead on any type of calculation.

After reading this story in the WSJ today, I'm left wondering if we'll see any similar deals in the future for e-bikes? (I know the answer is no) With the current offers from Nissan and Fiat, it's actually less $ to get an e-Car than than something like the 2013 Zero S- and that just doesn't seem right. Granted, it's a lease for the cars, but I usually only keep vehicles for ~3 years anyway, so that's not a big deal, and I'm guessing the resale on e-bikes is not that great.
