so I got this chintzy thing at Radio Shack, jerry-rigged it to my electric vest, with some help from Frank Caridi, and had to jerry-rig it myself again. Then that connection broke when I accidentally pulled on it.
Now when I connect the wires correctly, I get nothing.
Did I short it out because it was on when I pulled it apart?
Did I short out my electric vest?
Should I just keep replacing these or do any of you know of a better product to connect an electric vest?
I gotta fix it this weekend so I don't die of freezation riding to work! It's been so cold here, like almost 50!

As for repairing it, well, I did do a cursory search, and strangely enough, there's no amazing new technology that strengthens aluminum once it's been bent. ;-) This thread has great advice from commenter Robert Haas: http://www.southbayriders.com/forums/threads/124977/
So yeah, if you wanna buy my seriously dented front wheel, I'll sell it to you for $50. With a waiver, of course. ;-) Otherwise it's going to the recycling plant.

Sooo a few years ago, I put a massive dent in the S style front wheel of my 2013 FX. And now it's finally high time I put a new tire on that wheel. But as predicted, the dent is big enough to not allow a new tire to seat properly and it's leaking a bit. 2 PSI in the first few hours.
I know bending dents back into shape is a bad idea, so does anyone have an S front wheel for sale? Or recommendations for something lighter (but sturdier, of course, no magnesium!) that will fit? Man, that wheel is heavy for aluminum!

congratulations! My 2013 is the funnest bike I've ever owned, and I've owned a few. I can answer #7- The governor does kick in and limit your speed to like 55mph then less then eventually ZERO if you keep trying to ride. I've only done that ONCE in two years of riding this bike as much as 30 miles on the freeway. The only reason it happened was because I'd done two days in a row of long trips on my R1 and just could NOT bring myself to go slow after watching the Evel Knievel documentary at Deus. Luckily it was all downhill or flat the rest of the way home and only about 2 miles.
8- my plastics may have faded a tad bit since 2013, the past year of which I've parked outside, and I ride this bike every day. But they're still black.
9- I don't need a helmet lock, I've got a Givi top case for that. ;-)

seriously? do you sleep at home? I have an extension cord running from my 2nd floor apartment to the parking lot. 110v. I plug in when I get home and it's fully charged by the time I am ready to go to work. These bikes only take 8 hours to reach a full charge on 110. I have their off board charger I can use WITH the on-board to halve that time, but I never need it.

I love my 2013 FX, I ride it every day. There is always a 110v outlet everywhere in America. Look around at work, see if there's someplace to plug in. I've even ridden inside and plugged in at some clients.
I get 30 miles highway at "as fast as possible in light LA traffic" That includes dropping it to 70mph when it starts to get hot, and trying to draft vehicles when I can. I get about 70 miles of mostly surface streets at 30-50 mph. I haven't done any engine or controller mods, and am fine with the available settings. I've also ridden S's and SR's and would take the lesser range of the FX over those bikes any day. As you discovered, it's the most fun you can have on two wheels!
Most important mod for daily riding- S wheels and Pirelli tires. Dirt tires have no place on pavement. I also have a Givi topcase on mine and the Zero handlebar mount for my phone. I have USAA insurance, which I love, but it's only for military & their families. If they ask cc's, say it's equivalent to a 250cc.

Well, I have a 2013 FX, so it's not the same model. But it's my main ride, and I put about 20 hard miles/day on it at least. The batteries were recalled shortly after I got it, so I was without the bike for a couple months. Zero compensated us all for our trouble, but it broke my heart not being able to ride my favorite bike. Now, over the past couple months, it's been having a starting issue. Harlan and the folks at Zero are doing everything they can to figure out why it's doing this. It doesn't start, and if I turn it off then on again it's fine. But sometimes it'll just die while I'm riding, which is terrifying.
Since it's still under warranty, they're doing everything they can to fix it. But if I didn't still have my R1 I'd be really bummed. My advice is keep your gas bike as a backup and for touring. Most Americans who ride do so only on weekends, and Zero is a relatively new company trying to build bikes cheap enough to appeal to us using a VERY expensive part (batteries). Batteries are getting cheaper, which is why they're able to offer the 2015's with kick-ass suspension & brakes, and other improvements, while only being around $500 more expensive.

I pointed out that magazines like Motorcyclist had waited until the FALL to publish any reviews of the 2013s. Which didn't help Zero much, as they'd pretty much wound up production by then. One magazine even waited until November. I promised Spring coverage, and delivered. OK, so Motorcyclist didn't bother riding them, but at least they gave them Spring editorial space.

awesome! yet another paper mag that got a 2013 long before I did and waited this long to publish it. Cycle World's editor told me they had to wait till fall because they just didn't have room for it. I told the good people of Zero that Gas2.org would've had a review up immediately. Hopefully they won't make the same mistake with the 2014's. I'd love to be able to tell y'all how that SR handles on the track... Y'know, while it's still available TO BUY!

this is so exciting!!! I have a dream... of riding e-bikes powered only renewably from Dakar to Cape Town, say about 2018 or so. It's so rad to see some people are actually thinking about this seriously, and making it happen. Sure, the setup you have requires a support vehicle but my friend who wants to do this with me is big on support vehicles. I LOVE the story about charging with a waterfall!!! Do you have video of that? Or even pix?
