John McGuiness says he peed in his pants:

http://www.irishbiker.ie/racing-and-trackdays/tt-2016-bruce-anstey-wins-tt-zero-class-for-mugen/

You might want to read that a little closer, for some strange reason I suspect it might be parody...

Electric Motorcycle Events / Re: Loose weight go faster
« on: February 03, 2016, 08:40:37 PM »
The exciting thing about this is wondering why they'd be willing to go through such a huge additional expense for having the fastest TT rider in the world already lose 22 pounds.  I'm hopeful that they've got some huge improvements for the bike this year, and their simulations show that if they cut a bit more weight they have a chance to break the Supersport lap record of 128.66 mph.

It was an interesting show.  A good overview with a bit of technical detail.  Hopefully in future shows they'll get a bit more into the details.  During the question and answer he wouldn't answer questions about future models, but it definitely seemed like they'll have news on the charging front coming up.  He did say that Zero's battery voltage is currently too low to use Tesla Superchargers sadly.

a little onboard video from testing..

This looks great.  I'm not a rider myself yet (waiting for e-bikes to get a bit more affordable), but I've been waiting anxiously for someone to put the FX drivetrain in a bike that's more robust.  With the motocross crowd, when e bikes start winning major competitions that's when they'll be taken seriously, and this looks like a great step toward that goal.

They may have but didn't include it.  I have yet to see a negative review from Translogic.
And besides, I doubt he had an answer that quickly.

Yep, negativity just isn't part of the show's format.  Normally that's something I'd have a problem with, not talking about the downsides of something is part of balanced reporting, but its clear that the show is meant to be a celebration of new tech so its fitting in this case.

I was interested to hear that they have plans for a lower cost bike in the future ala Tesla.  Its not terribly surprising considering Tesla's success and it seems like the kind of thing you'd say to attract investors, but its the first I'd heard of it.

Guy Martin getting off his Victory...

Earlier in the week Guy Martin stepped in to run the qualification lap having not ridden electric before... he deserves a big "THANKS!"

The interview after that lap was a highlight to me.

That "post-first-electric" smile we all have seen or done before - grinning ear to ear and glancing in wonder back at the bike. Guy's nearly incomprehensible (to my American ear) accent giddy chatter about the bike, with the "it just goes dunnit it" being recognizable and then more giddy chatter.

Is there any video of the interview?  I'm at work at the moment, but last night I was searching for video of the laps or interview and couldn't find anything except the after race press conference with John McGuinness and Lee Johnston.

General Discussion / Re: Charging wars

I'm the only person at my company with an electric car so far, so when my employer agreed to let me charge at work I made sure to set a good president. I purchased the 220v charger, they paid for installation and electricity, so that's my charger.  If someone else gets an electric car and wants to charge here can either ask me to share, or purchase their own.

You could rename this clip "Why I'd never ride an air powered motorcycle."  Skip to about 2:15.

Just want to add that there is a "MMX" model in the press galleries. A somewhat stripped FX with knobbies, chain drive and low-tech dashboard. It's not presented in motorcycles tab and from what I've seen it's not even mentioned anywhere.

This is the military version they offered last year, which got basically the same upgrades as the 14 FX.  If you download the press material packet on the website there's a few pages on it.

Added weight?  I'm not yet a motorcycle rider so I don't have any experience, but the RS is only 8 pounds heavier than the equivalent batteried S.  Seems like it wouldn't even be noticeable.
