Does anyone know how Zero is handling the accessories compensation part of this transaction ? Is Zero asking us to return the purchased accessories ? I have an additional charger and I bought the passenger foot pegs also. The towing company says they are only picking up the bike.

The controller on my DS has been overheating ever since I had the 2013 hybrid motor swap, It was recommended to check the heat sink grease for deterioration and consider a reapplication. I started to remove the 4 main allen head bolts that hold it in but they are super tight, I'm sure I'm gonna strip the allen, is there any problem with adding heat the the female end which is part of the aluminum frame? I was considering using a small butane fine point torch. And has anyone noticed a problem with heat sink grease deteriorating is this a waste of time ?

Its been a while since you posted here but I can tell you the dealer replaced the stock motor on my 2012DS with a 75-7 and its overheated ever since between 60 and 65 MPH. The bike is really limited now, no hwy riding otherwise it overheats and abruptly slows itself down, kinda dangerous. The dealer says its the speed controller that's overheating and there is nothing they can do.

Richard,  if Zero offers you a motor swap to the 2013/2014 sealed motor, make sure you test drive it at speed to check for overheating issues after the work is done.  My bike got a motor swap, the glitch is gone but the bike overheats within a couple minutes at a speed over 65 mph

That"s what my bike was doing, rapidly slowing down, then it would take off again.  Oddly it usually happened at about the same place 4 miles from my home. Sometimes it wouldn't take off from a start, I had to like "pop start it"  roll it forward a bit and it would go.
  Zero techs couldn't make the problem completely go away so they did the 2013/2014 motor swap under warranty, no more "glitch" but now it overheats at 65 mph with the new sealed motor.

Thanks for the replies folks, this gives me something to discuss with Zero, is there anyway to tell if its the motor or the controller that is overheating and is the timing adjustment anything I can adjust in my garage with a lap top connected ?  Is there anything an owner can do at home to adjust programing of the bike or to look at settings ? 
  The closest dealer to me is now a 12 hour round trip, It would be great if I can start to work on this machine myself somehow.

Hey folks,
  A few of you have had the motor upgrade to the 2013/2014 motor , I had my motor replaced last Oct. under warranty after experiencing a variety of  glitches with the motor that couldn't be resolved. I've been experiencing overheating at 65-70 mph ever since with the new motor, red light on the console and the bike slows itself down. Have any of you guys experienced this and if so how was it remedied ?
  As an example, riding in 60 F  ambient temp. , only two minutes at 70 mph and the temp light comes on, two more minutes at this speed and the bike is speed controlling.  As the days are warming up the problem is getting worse.

Ya, the motor glitch

I've been experiencing something very similar to Vanessa for a couple of years now, it only recently started to get a bit worse, wanted to go in reverse today, ended up rolling is forward several feet before the motor finally started working properly.  The Tech at Zero I was working with also left the company
and my dealer 1 hour away is no longer carrying the Zero bikes, so the closest dealer is now 5 hours away, considering its a warranty issue I may ask the dealer to pick it up, does anyone have experience with Zero covering transport costs to and from the dealer ?

I'm happy with my ZF9 DS, I have 11000 miles, and I'm waiting on a new motor as I've been dealing with intermittent glitches for a couple of years now. My bike recovers from the glitches on its own very quickly. Zero believes the glitch's are due to slop in the motor bearing. I live on a dirt road also so Zero blames the dirt and dust.  I've had problems with the plastic breaking almost everywhere, the rear directional mounting locations have broken out twice now, I'm customizing the rear fender, making it smaller and smaller as I relocate the directional lamps.  Zero has been good with warranty work, I had a dealer 40 miles away but they are no longer a dealer for Zero because of delays in warranty work compensation and poor sales.  I had an employee of zero come to my home for the software update once since then. I charge my bike from my Off Grid home solar system primarily. The bike has never left me stranded and it runs great most of the time on my 60 mile round trip commute. the furthest I've gone on a single charge has been 80 miles. My rear tires only last 3500 miles or so.

I agree, I put the Bridgestone TW40, 120/80 on the back of my DS recently, its great, only a little low speed vibration, like rolling too a stop. I got 3500 miles per tire out of the two previous stock rear tires. This tire has deeper and a little more aggressive tread. Looks good also.  The stock front tire is still holding up.

I am going with the same tire in the front soon as the the front OEM tire is getting thin.

I agree, I love my 2012 DS, the range that Zero publishes is accurate. I've got over 4000 miles on mine. I have the foot pegs from zero and their great, look good but were pretty expensive. Before I got the passenger pegs I ran a piece of PVC through the frame hole. I also have a second charger, the charger fits nicely in the Zero seat  pack so I can bring it along if I want, two chargers will run off one 20amp receptical. I charge mostly at home on my OFF Grid solar system as well.

I keep my 2012 DS plugged in all the time so that I have a full battery. I think its important to know what battery chemistry you have and research it - batteryunivercity.com or Wiki it.  My DS has uses the Lithium NMC chemistry or the Nickle, manganese, cobalt.  Its has excellent energy density and thermo regulation, meaning it doesn't get as hot as other lithium chemistry's during charge and discharge with is good because excessive heat will destroy most things.
I have a watt hr meter on my charger so I just look at it to see if the charger has finished bulk charging or is in float mode, drawing about 5 watts.  Bulk charge mode it draws about 950 watts
