Thanks for the info and link Phantom. I am a bit confused, because don't the TTXGP bikes go 130+ MPH, but the average speed of the course is like 85 or so? I do not think my goal is unattainable, I just need to make sure I am using the correct equipment. Maybe my new goal is to build a bike that can compete with the TTXGP bikes. I do have some questions though - first, reading through some of the posts on the site I am getting the you need high Voltage to go faster (or have a higher top speed) and the higher Amps you use the better the torque. Are those correct assumptions to make.

After work today I am going to buy the book by Carl Vogel about Building an Electric Motorcycle, so I am sure that a lot of my questions will be answered through reading that. But I do appreciate all/any assistance I can get from people who are building thier own bikes currently.

I am starting a new project that will be a Race bike. The donor bike is a 2003 GSX-R 600. I plan on using a GMS M1 motor (http://www.greenmotorsport.com/green_motorsport/products_and_services/3,1,388,17,12958.html) with LiffePo4 batts (I was thinking LifeBatt, but am open to suggestions). I plan on the bike having good acceleration coming off corners, but also be able to hit 130+MPH down the straights. I would need like a 40 or 45 mile range to meet length of race  (with some extra juice to get it back to the trailer). Any ideas about this would be very helpfull, as I am new to all this. I do have a team of people that have lots of electrical knowledge that I will be leaning on for assistance.

The motor i am looking at runs 72V to 144V. I am wondering if there is a difference in top end speed between the tow configurations. i know that if you go series you add the Volts together and if your go parallel you add the Amps or Ah.

What are the pro's and con's of running your batteries parallel compared with series? I am looking at doing 8 12V batterires minimum.

What I am looking at doing is having one electric motor the moves the bike. This motor will have a dual shaft design. Then there will be a second electric motor that is connected to the first (on the opposite side as chain drive - hence dual shaft) that will be turning due to first motors spinning, but the second motor will be strictly a generator if electricity that will be pumped back into the battery pack.

The first motor would be something like http://www.cloudelectric.com/product_p/mo-x91-4001.htm. The second motor, generating motor would be something like http://www.electricmotorsport.com/store/ems_ev_parts_motors_pmac.php.

I fully understand regen braking, but there is minimal power production from that.

I have a simple, hopefully, question about motors and generation. I am in the design stages of my first electric motorcycle (with help from friend with energy and electrical backgrounds). I am looking to put together a motor combination that would allow the bike to be propelled as well a generate electricity to either charge the bataries or just transfer to the propulsion (not sure if that is actually a word) motor. So essentially i am looking to hook to motors up and eb able to have one motor than makes the bike move and the other that runs off the first that would be totall yusaed for co-generation as i ride.

Does this seem like it would work? if so, ar ether any recommendation on the size of motors and gearing needed?
