Gen Z thinks bikes are too dangerous.

I believe they are in a position to know, seeing how they are the ones texting and live-streaming while blowing through stoplights at two or three times the speed limit.

Thought I would share here that I stopped by Tyler’s shop last week and he helped me out with my FXE. It had the old firmware that required a dealer to update to the latest version. Tyler had it updated in a few minutes and gave me some helpful guidance on how to wash the bike without getting water in places that can cause problems. I have been concerned about that due to all the horror stories. He was very welcoming and clearly a guy I can trust when my bike needs service. I found him thanks to this thread and I’m glad I did. Thanks to theoutsider for posting the information.

I just tried the Zero app on my Android phone for my 2018 Zero S and it still works fine. Whether or not it will pick up any more updates from Zero, I have no idea. But my observation is that Zero has not offered any updates for my bike for over a year and I am pretty sure that they are done with messing around with the older Gen 2 models, when it come to firmware updates - which is probably a good idea as they seemed to have solved all of the bugs that may have been around on those models by now.

I will also mention (again) that my daughter's 2014 Zero S has never had a firmware update since it left the factory in early 2014 and still runs just as well as my fully-updated 2018 model. So go figure.....   

Thanks for sharing, all. This firmware business is most vexing. Knowing about Richard’s daughter’s bike still working well after 9 years with no updates makes me think if it’s not broken don’t fix it. My FXE works great, so I’m not going out of my way to get an update that might actually create problems. There have been several reports of updates that left bikes with problems they didn’t have before.

As a California resident, I think our taxes are relatively fair in terms of who bears the burden. However there has been quite an exodus of corporations in recent years because our business taxes make other states more advantageous for business. Combined with the relatively high cost of land for expansion, it’s not hard to see why a company like Zero might want to look for a more business-friendly state.

This sounds similar to a problem I had with my new FXE. It was caused by overtightened zip ties around the wire harness breaking a connection in the ignition switch. Cured by loosening the zip ties and replacing the ignition.

My experience with my Fiat 500e has taught me never to depend on a Chargepoint actually working. About half the time they refuse to charge my car and cause it to throw up warnings and error codes. And I’ve learned from the forums that this is common with Chargepoint. I wouldn’t plug my Zero into one unless I absolutely had to. They are the only stations I ever have problems with. You might try reporting the problem to Chargepoint if you haven’t. Some say reporting problems gets the station fixed, at least for a while.
