A pity! Would have been nice to have more capacity (and being able to use it) by 'just' swapping the cells.  :-[

Update:
Found the official data sheet of Leonelli, maybe helpful for later reference. I think this covers all questions regarding the sensor.
On Ducatis the sensor is mounted as shown on the sheet, Energica hides the sensor behind the side stand.

Forum member ElectricRebel told me, there is (or will be shortly) a new Farasis cell 'S46' available which theoretically has +20% capacity and is rated for 4.2 V.
It is 0.05 mm thicker, but he thinks they would still fit into the battery casing.

If I understood right, those new cells could be installed without the hassle of changing anything concering the charging. Correct?

Consumption monitoring reads around 18 kWh when charging my '22 Ribelle at home (21.5 kWh nameplate).
Considering losses I think the real-world available-for-riding capacity is somewhere between 16 and 17 kWh.

After having reached 111,111 km yesterday  ;D  I am not experiencing any capacity degradation yet, but I do not measure and calculate to the last digit (anymore). My feeling is, if there is any loss in capacity, it is lower than 10 %.

Judging from that I would say that Energica did a quite conservative setup with capacity safety margins, current restrictions etc.
So, that setup could probably be tweaked but with the risk of a shorter battery life, but I am far away from being an expert and personally I would not tinker with that.

The NORDIC SAGA continues.

https://insideevs.com/news/798393/donut-lab-solid-state-debunked-lithium-ion-battery/

The vid linked inside this article is worth watching.

Once I sincerely hoped that Donut Lab was telling the truth, but the indications a not pointing in that direction.
Even if I had the money to buy a Verge with SSB right now, I would have to wait more than a year for delivery acc. to Verge's website. That tells its own story, I think.

I am 100 % sure, in about 5 years there will be a Hollywood picture about this.

Energica / Re: Replacing LED in the headlights, Ribelle
« on: June 08, 2026, 01:02:31 PM »
I guess your headlights are not operation anymore. Are you sure it's because of the LED and not because of the LED drivers (they are known to fail)?
Just asking because I had this problem and tried to get a complete new lamp unit from the manufacturer ECE of Italy. Mailed them twice but they never bothered to answer.

Maybe first try warming it up with a hairdryer, that should only produce relatively moderate temperatures and you might already feel the sealant becoming weak.

After testing, I can report that the Ducati spare part is operating. The connector is matching and does not have to be re-wired.

Only thing: The wire length of the Ducati switch is too short, there are approx. 25 cm missing.
To access the connector, the upper 'tank' fairing and the side fairung under the seat have to be dismantled. Or you need the dexterity of an ob-gyn :P

As described, the sensor has 3 wires, but one is dead-ended at the connector, i.e. only two wires are leading to the bike's control unit.
Workaround in case you are stranded because of a broken side stand switch: When you short-circuit these two wires on the bike's side, the control unit gets a signal that the side stand is up and you can go again.

Energica / Re: SS9+ partial-load surging/jerking at 80 km/h / 50 mph

I tried an Esjot rubber sprocket and now have the JT rubber sprocket. They are not less noisy (I cannot hear any difference) than normal sprockets but the rubber keeps the dirt away a bit or at least that is my impression. Note, normal 16 teeth, only RS has 15 teeth.

The old red/black rear chainwheel was from Supersprox, very expensive because of the color (inner wheel aluminium, outer teeth wheel made from steel) and I had to wait more than 6 months for delivery.
AFAM is totally OK, first one lastet more than 40,000 km. Now I have a black Esjot chainwheel. I chose Esjot because they are a company located in my region.

Chain is a MVXZ-2 with screw-lock. In Germany usually cheapest at kawaschrauber.de

UPDATE

During the last two rides it happened that the bike did not respond to the throttle anymore. It helt the current speed but did not accelerate anymore. The gree GO was gone from the display.
After cruising to a halt in a safe spot and trying to reinitiate, the message "Side stand down" came up, so I knew it was the sensor. I wiggled it and I could go again.

Yesterday I dismantled sidestand and sensor and dared to open it (see pictures).
It is in fact a metallic contact switch actuated by a notched plastic wheel and not a hall sensor. Technology of yesterday  ::)
Manufacturer is LEONELLI of Spain and the sensor has the reference (type) number 063.
By my mishandling it, apparently the copper contacts were bent. I tried to rebend them, but I don't know if that is sustainable, so I am looking for a spare part.

An internet search found me that this sensor was also used for 1198 Ducatis MY2009-2011. Might also be installed in Aprilia 50 RS MY1999-2001.
The advantage of using the Ducati spare part is, that the connector appears to be the same as the original. I ordered the Duc sensor (50 Euro) and will report later if it fits as expected.

Hi Urs,
You have probably still the first chain? In my case that was a Regina product and that was totally toast at 14,000 km. On the danger of repeating myself, I cannot stress enough how shitty Regina chains are.
Changed my complete rearset two weeks ago on a rainy day after 42,000 km (Enuma/RK-chain). There was visible wear on sprocket and chainwheel (see pictures). The chain itself was lengthened by approx. 1 % and began to make increased noise.

There are measuring gauges available for assessing the chain lengthening, if you want. Otherwise your finger lifting up the chain at a point while turning the wheel is also a good indicator to see if there are tight spots which incur the surging sounds while driving.

@Grauteufel: Unfortunately there is a good chance that the EoNE indicators will not run on European models without modification. The original US indicators come with bulbs, i.e. probably 5 W. That is much more than the European LED version (1.9 W).
Cost acc. to the EoNE website are 249 USD for a pair.

I know you are based in Switzerland. Not knowing what your regulations are for running lights, but in the EU you would need to somehow switch off the low beam headlights if you want to use the DRL function of the EoNE thingies. Probably the EU does not want that because of a four-lamp motorcycle someone will overlook a 30 ton truck  ::).

Off Topic: BMW introduced the laser high beam in 2014 in the i8, but as it seems they discontinued this technology because of cost and regulatory issues.
https://machineswithsouls.com/why-did-bmw-kill-laser-headlights/
As far as I understand, the laser light is somewhat 'converted' into the visible spectrum by having it reflected on a phosphorum coated surface.
It seems they also tinkered with tail lights using lasers, but apparently that never led to anything in sales.

Energica / Re: Improved copper Busbars...

@ERebel: Again congratulations!

I've seen ERebel's new busbars, they look so sleek  8) Battery casing should be made of glass to admire them  ;D

14
@Aaron: There are Headlamps using Laser already, at least I know BMW has done it for high beam.

Quote: 'On April 17, Lauri Peltola, co-founder of Nordic Nano Group, an R&D company working with Donut Lab on the battery, told Finland’s leading newspaper Helsingin Sanomat that the bold claims were “simply not true,” and filed a criminal complaint with government officials.'

That's the stuff screenplays are made of  8)
By the way: Delivery date for a Verge Ultra is now Q4/2027.
