Hi,
On my right front Showa shock I have a weird opening on top. See this image:

Is this normal? Do your bikes have this? What could be the purpose of it?

I don't see that gap on my 2018 S forks. My guess is that it is likely a bleeder hole to allow air pressure to escape when the forks are compressed rapidly so as to not put any pressure on the fork oil seals. I kind of wish my forks had that opening. ;)

If it's not on the left, it looks to me like a manufacturing defect. Discuss it with your dealer.

Does not look right to me, it is pretty irregular in shape. I would expect a breather to be round and either a valve on it (like a dirt bike accessory) or a screw as in the earlier versions.
Yep, talk to the dealer!

Ok...
Embarrassing moment. Went to look at it again with a big bright light. It seems to be a weirdly shaped black speck of dirt. Without extra lighting it sure looked like a weird hole.
Sorry everyone! Thank you though for all the fast reactions!

I commend you for coming clean.... I examined your PIC very closely.... I sure thought it was a cut/slot too.... I've made much, much worse mistakes !!!! AND yours has a happy ending....
