Title: Motor Selection Help!
Post by: EV_Enduro450 on November 21, 2019, 05:01:45 AM
Hi Everyone,

This is my first post on the forum. I am in the process of converting a 2007 Honda CRF450x to an EV. I plan on using this bike in expert division hare scramble races. Thus far I have determined that I need a motor capable of the following (through numerical modelling):

Power: 2 kW continuous, 12 kW peak
Torque: 30 N-m continuous, 200 N-m peak (at the rear wheel) aka motor would need peak of 66 N-m with a typ 2.78 sprocket ratio.

Any suggestions on motors I could re-purpose for this project?
I do not want to purchase a std BLDC motor from china but rather use something like an HVAC motor from a Toyota prius or something similar. I have a budget of 500$ CAD and the motor would need to be able to be overclocked to to hit the peak power output.

I have also looked into using a motor from a high powered treadmill but I cant find any believable motor curves for such motors.

Any motor suggestions or other forum posts where they discuss a similar problem are welcomed :)

Thanks
