Title: Yamaha dives into the EV market
Post by: Richard230 on October 11, 2019, 08:18:26 PM
Sort of.  From the looks at this article, Yamaha is throwing everything they can think of at the EV market to see what sticks to the wall. But will any of it make it to the consumer market?:

I think Yamaha already launched a model in Taiwan, a cooperation with Gogoro (user-replaceable battery scheme) a few months ago.
But it looks like they're finally getting in the actual market; while no specs were mentioned, I'll be surprised if it's any different from the many models sold at high volume in China & elsewhere.
Good news, in any case, but still not an actual motorcycle.

Whilst none of those appeal to me, we really do need major manufacturers to jump in on electric bikes. Whilst Zero are great, until electric bikes are more mainstream things like getting insurance will always be a hurdle.

I have a friend who the E-Vino would be perfect for.  Yamaha has talked them up for a couple years but they kept saying 2019 was the year they were going to actually sell them.

I hope they figure out a way to get them into dealers' hands so that they can actually get bought.

They launched the EC05 in Taiwan, which is very similar to those sit-down scooters.

The E01 looks good. "Fast charging" probably means J1772/220V at 3kW but the question is what the pack size is. Maybe 5-6kWh?

A more fitting headling would be Yamaha dips a toe into the EV market. Diving would imply stopping all production of petrol burning vehicles and going pure electric.

That was me just trying to be sarcastic.   ;)
