Just a reminder for my fellow eMoto riders. Respect these machines!
After nearly 3 months and 2700 miles of daily commuting and weekend rides I thought I had gotten used to my electric and was even starting to feel a little underwhelmed with acceleration. I was taking a relatively relaxed ride in for my morning commute yesterday and had gotten out of my eMoto frame of mind. I hit wide open throttle to merge onto the freeway and scared the crap out of myself with the unexpected brutality of the acceleration.
I know it was because I allowed myself to mentally relax and let myself get caught by surprise but just wanted to remind everyone that these electrics aren’t toys and they hit hard at any speed.

Very true.
I was coming home the other night and there was a car slowing passing me on the left as we crossed a bridge with an on ramp from another highway and a van coming off didn't yield. I hit that throttle and shot the gap between them and when I looked back they were a good 60 yards behind.
It can scare you if you aren't expecting it but it sure saved my butt on that one.

Good point. I usually find that the colder months start bringing on rain, with wet leaves or mud, and this trips me up when using the bike on road edges or embankments. The same torque I normally use suddenly unsticks the tire and slips around a bit.
I think the SR/F traction control will take care of this, but haven't seen a report confirming it yet.

I assume that was with your SS9. Were you in the sport mode? I normally keep mine in the Urban mode.

LOL...cool short film. Sometimes marketing gets it right. I picture myself in the bike related parts of that video when I’m riding my electric. Especially when I’m cruising through town with my tinted visor on my helmet. I regularly see pedestrians turning to look at my electric trying to make sense of it as I pass. Then when I’m splitting lanes and I look over at someone yapping/texting on their cell phone and they look up with a “who me?†Kind of expression.
...and nah, the ending has never happened to me but one can dream. ;)

Yep...sport mode. After playing around with the various modes, I settled on sport, full regen, and traction control level 2 as my go to settings. I dropped it down to Urban mode when the first rain of the season hit here early last week and the roads were a bit damp but other than that I leave it on the settings above.

For the freeway, I keep regen off in the mountains, and on the lowest setting for regen in the flatlands. I only use the max regen in stop and go traffic and down very steep twisty hills (such as the Mt. Rose Hwy). I almost never use sport mode.
IMO, the SS9 has way too much regen in the lowest setting. I wish it had at least one custom mode, as do the Zeros.

Ever since getting a Bolt EV and getting used to the one-peddle driving mode, which is essentially a strong coasting regen, I've set the FX for 100% coasting regen in order to have a similar experience.
But unlike on the Bolt, I don't get a smooth experience. Sometimes it's downright jerky. The slightest twist of the throttle moves from 0% regen to 100% regen or back, so there I am jerking up to a stop sign. Sometimes practically whisky-throttling. I know it's not just because I have it at 100%. The regen on the Bolt is strong, especially if one uses the extra regen paddle on the steering wheel, yet it's completely smooth.
The coasting and braking regen needs to be a more complicated function of throttle position, not just on/off. This thread reminded me of that. Coming into the wet season, I'll not be using 100% regen on this bike. I'd be in a corner, let off the throttle, and it'll brake[sic] loose.

They fixed this on the SR/F with progressive regen on the throttle. I hope they can find a way to apply the same approach to the other models.

The on/off regen is the reason why I never use it on my FXS. It needs to feel more like ICE engine braking. I'm glad they've done something about it on the SR/F, but I doubt that can be applied to the other models without some hardware changes.

It needs a variable sensor and some programing changes, tho The unofficial zero manual states it is possible. See 'Variable Regen'. https://zeromanual.com/wiki/Advanced_Modifications#variable_regen
