I'm curious if anyone has experience with both.
Should the performance be very close between these two bikes?

I would think that the extra 45 pound weight of a power tank would certainly slow down the DSR's acceleration.

Same motor and controller I believe, so only difference is weight.

Different wheel sizes, different tire types, different suspensions and front end ride height. The handle bar shape and height gets the rider slightly more forward leaning and lower on the SR. That's where the quoted range differences come into play.

Jarrett, what is it that you want?
There are different types of horses to race different types of courses. To paraphrase an old saying.
A 1300cc Hayabusa is a monster for straight line longer distance high speed but would be a total joke at motor cross.
There is no one bike that does everything the best.
The SR is a street bike. It doesn't have the high riding long travel front fork like a dual sport does. It has smoother street tires that grip a paved road better but would spin up in the loose dirt.
If the same rider took both bikes down a drag strip the SR would win every time and even more so if the DSR had the power tank. Will it be by a huge margin? Not really but a win is a win.
I think your hinting at would you go much faster if you didn't have the extra 45lbs of power tank. A no power tank DSR would be slightly faster than one that has it but barely.
The point of the bike isn't to drag race though it's to go farther and go off road as well as street riding and have a more forgiving cushy ride off road.
If you now want a street drag racing bike you'll need an Ego or a Lightning.

Of course if you want to test it for pure data collection you can get a 45lb dumbbell and tie it to the rear seat and see how much it slows you down compared to no weight.
