Google just suggested me this article from The Verge.
Innolith says they'll get 1000Wh/kg as opposed to the state of the art 250Wh/kg by replacing the organic electrolyte with inorganic. If this is true then it seems like a tremendous improvement from a relatively incremental change. It shouldn't take that long to bring to market. Imagine more than doubling the range of current EVMCs!
Is it a lie?

These things are rarely outright lies. But they also rarely make it out of the lab and into the real world. When they do, it takes a huge investment and lots of time.
Most likely, the science is real. The reality? We'll just have to wait and see.

There are lots of really interesting and apparently useful ideas that work well in a lab but never seem to make it to the mass market. ??? Like Doug says, don't hold your breath until a new battery design becomes available to the general public. All you can do is to hope that it happens some day. ;)

But these guys have already delivered a product to a customer that is proven to be good for 55,000 cycles at 2C. That’s pretty impressive from what I know. It delivers 2 W for every Wh. By comparison a Tesla Powerpack only delivers 0.24 W for every Wh. It’s not clear how they compare in volume and weight as Innolith doesn’t supply dimensions or weights.

Wait a minute....we know the Tesla P85D has a battery capacity of 85 kW, and Tesla claims 691 horsepower (though there is some dispute about the actual number). Google conversions tells me 691 horsepower is 515 kW, which means the Tesla is putting out 515/85 = 6 W per Wh. If the Tesla battery was only capable of supplying 0.24 W per Wh, as claimed, that would only translate to 20.4kW, or less than 28 horsepower. That's not even close to the real value, dispute or no.
What kind of happy calculators are they using?

The Powerpack is designed for utilities, not cars. The specs are for the entire system, not the cells within it. Power requirements are lower, longevity requirements higher for utility uses. It’s likely the BMS in the Powerpack limits power to increase longevity, and Tesla uses different chemistries for different products. But the fact that Innolith has enough confidence to specify a high power level and still claim such high cycle life suggests what their cell design might be capable of.

If you cycled the battery every day 55,000 cycles would be 150 years. I don’t think anyone expects a Tesla car battery to last that long. Cycling every day for 20 years is only 7,300 cycles.

They say that they can reduce the weight, but can they reduce the cost ? This is the real question !
